Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 626 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 626 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 318 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking area to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Vision Jet, then departed from runway 05 at NSTU Pago Pago International Airport. The takeoff distance was 582 meters, which accounted for 23% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 82 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 24 degrees Celsius and wind speeds of 23 knots at 282 degrees. The crosswind was 16 knots, and the tailwind was 17 knots. After departing from Pago Pago International Airport, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,021 feet above sea level to 4,714 feet above sea level, an increase of 3,693 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 2 miles southwest of Alofau, a location in the Eastern District of America Samoa. This phase of the flight lasted for 9 minutes and covered a distance of 42 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 13 miles west of NSAS Ofu Airport in the Manu'a District of America Samoa. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 5,163 feet above sea level to 845 feet above sea level, a decrease of 4,318 feet in 6 minutes, covering a distance of 16 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 26 at NSAS Ofu Airport was made from the east, heading 277.0 degrees at 2 nautical miles and 831 feet above ground level. The landing was made on a runway with a length of 626 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed at 74 knots was well below the target, requiring the pilot to be cautious not to stall. The touchdown point was very long, using more than 50% of the available runway. The touchdown speed at 61 knots was good, and the touchdown rate was excellent at -73 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 7.7 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions during the landing were a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and wind speeds of 28 knots at 312 degrees. The crosswind was 16 knots, and the headwind was 23 knots. The total flight distance was 67 nautical miles, and the flight took 29 minutes. The aircraft used 92 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Vision Jet aircraft successfully landed at NSAS Ofu Airport, achieving a score of 90.3%. The final approach to runway 26 was conducted from the east, with a heading of 277.0° at 2 nautical miles and 831 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was well-executed, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 74 knots, which was below the target speed to avoid stalling.
However, the touchdown point was quite far down the runway, utilizing more than 50% of the available runway length. This indicates that the aircraft may have been slightly long on the approach, requiring the pilot to use more of the runway to come to a stop. The touchdown speed of 61 knots was still within acceptable limits, and the touchdown rate of -73 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
Despite the successful landing, there was a slight misalignment of the runway touchdown position, with the aircraft being 7.7 meters off the centerline. This may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach path or a slight drift during the final stages of the approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 28°C and a wind speed of 28 knots from 312°. The crosswind component was 16 knots, while the headwind component was 23 knots. These conditions would have required the pilot to make adjustments to the approach path and touchdown point to compensate for the wind. Overall, the Vision Jet aircraft performed well during the landing, with a good score and a smooth touchdown.
