MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,586 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 275 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 27 at KCID, The Eastern Iowa Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,343 meters, which accounted for 54% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 143 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of -8°C, with a wind speed of 19 knots at 203°. This resulted in a crosswind of 18 knots and a headwind of 7 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile west of KCID, and reached a height of 37,016 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,227 feet from the initial altitude of 1,788 feet. This climb took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 207 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 6 miles southwest of 68IN, Alley Oop Airport, Wheatfield, Indiana. This cruise lasted for 9 minutes and covered a distance of 308 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 7 miles east of Reader, West Virginia, and descended from 36,994 feet to 3,011 feet, a decrease of 33,983 feet, in 17 minutes and covering 170 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 1 mile northwest of Bryans Road, Maryland, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering 6 nautical miles. The descent from this cruise began overhead Fort Washington, Maryland, and the aircraft descended from 2,712 feet to 259 feet, a decrease of 2,453 feet, in 3 minutes and covering 8 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 33 at KDCA, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, was made from the southeast, heading 321.0°, at an altitude of 239 feet above ground level and a distance of 0 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was successful, with a touchdown speed of 130 knots and a touchdown rate of -198 feet per minute. The touchdown distance was 276 meters, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.1 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -3°C, with a wind speed of 18 knots at 290°. This resulted in a crosswind of 10 knots and a headwind of 15 knots. The total landing distance was 794 meters, which accounted for 50% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 703 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 53 minutes. The aircraft used 2,947 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The CRJ900 aircraft successfully landed at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (KDCA) on runway 33, achieving a high score of 98.1%. The final approach was conducted from the southeast, heading 321.0° at an altitude of 239 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway.
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a good threshold height, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The threshold speed of 143 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed during the landing phase. The touchdown distance of 276 meters was also satisfactory, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain a stable approach and touchdown.
The touchdown speed of 130 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -198 feet per minute (fpm) was also good, indicating a controlled and stable touchdown. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.1 meters from the centerline, which may require some adjustments to the pilot's approach and landing technique.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of -3°C and winds of 18 knots from 290°. The crosswind component was 10 knots, while the headwind component was 15 knots. Despite these challenging weather conditions, the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft and execute a safe and successful landing.
The total landing distance of 794 meters was 50% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and bring it to a stop safely.
Overall, the CRJ900 aircraft's landing at KDCA was a success, with the pilot demonstrating good control and management of the aircraft throughout the approach and landing phases. However, the slight misalignment of the runway touchdown position may require some adjustments to the pilot's technique to improve future landings.
