Departure
Lower the nose and add power to raise climb speed to 145 kt.
What happened: Climb speed was 124 kt against a target of 145 kt, running 21 kt slow through the climb.
Watch for: Airspeed indicator against the climb target of 145 kt.
Arrival
Reduce power earlier on final to bleed speed back to 89 kt before crossing the threshold.
What happened: You crossed the threshold at 105 kt, 16 kt above the 89 kt target.
Watch for: Airspeed, targeting 89 kt at the threshold.
See Arrival Landing
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,613 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 296 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Taxied from the parking area to runway 27 at KCID, the Eastern Iowa Airport, in less than 1 minute and covering less than 1 nm.
Takeoff roll on runway 27 was completed with a distance of 673 m, representing 27 % of the runway length, and the aircraft lifted off at 112 kt. Local weather at the time was Temperature 17 °C, Wind 1 kt at 269 °, Crosswind 0 kt and Headwind 1 kt.
Climb commenced overhead KCID, rising from 1,990 ft asl to 2,231 ft asl, an increase of 241 ft achieved in less than 1 minute while covering less than 1 nm.
Cruise level was established overhead KCID and persisted for 8 minutes, during which the aircraft covered 25 nm.
Final approach to runway 09 at KCID was flown from the west on a heading of 91.0°, beginning at 4 nm from the threshold and 1,408 ft agl.
Landing on runway 09 was executed on a runway 2,613 m long; the threshold speed was 105 kt, touchdown occurred 294 m down the runway at 92 kt, and the vertical speed at touchdown was minus 80 fpm. The touchdown point was offset 3.1 m from the centreline. Weather at landing was Temperature 16 °C, Wind 1 kt at 269 °, Crosswind 0 kt and Tailwind 1 kt.
Runway rollout distance measured 771 m, equivalent to 30 % of the runway, and alignment during rollout was recorded as very good.
In summary, the flight covered a total distance of 31 nm, taking 12 and used 1 kg of fuel.
The Legacy Analog IFD5 Steering aircraft approached runway 09 at KCID from the west on a heading of 91.0° at 4 nm and 1,408 ft agl, with a final-approach score of 99.5 %. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits.
At threshold the height was good and the threshold speed was good at 105 kt. Touchdown distance was good at 294 m and touchdown speed was good at 92 kt, while touchdown rate was excellent at minus 80 fpm.
The aircraft touched down slightly misaligned by 3.1 m from the centreline.
Total landing distance was 771 m, representing 30 % of the 2,613 m runway, and runway rollout alignment was very good.
Minor refinement of centreline tracking during the final seconds before touchdown would bring the touchdown point within tighter tolerances, further improving an already high-scoring landing.
