Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,499 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 216 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, then departed from runway 10 at WARR Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, Indonesia. The takeoff distance was 1,453 meters, which accounted for 49% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 146 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 15 knots at 300 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed out of the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile east of WARR Juanda International Airport. The climb took 20 minutes and covered a distance of 126 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,111 feet above sea level to 35,843 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,732 feet. The enroute level cruise then began 6 miles south of Negara, Indonesia, and lasted for 88 minutes, covering a distance of 667 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 79 miles north of Port Hedland, Australia, and the aircraft descended from 36,548 feet above sea level to 22,873 feet above sea level, a decrease of 13,675 feet, in just 4 minutes and covering 34 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another enroute climb, this time from 22,302 feet above sea level to 24,528 feet above sea level, an increase of 2,226 feet, in 2 minutes and covering 12 nautical miles. However, the climb was short-lived, as the aircraft began its next descent from 24,588 feet above sea level to 3,872 feet above sea level, a decrease of 20,715 feet, in 6 minutes and covering 22 nautical miles.
The final enroute level cruise started 19 miles west of Port Hedland, Australia, and lasted for 7 minutes, covering a distance of 19 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 14 at YPPD Port Hedland International Airport, flying from the north-west at a heading of 135.0 degrees and at an altitude of 1,759 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 14 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 216 meters, which was good. However, the touchdown speed was slightly above the target at 143 knots, and the touchdown rate was very heavy at -820 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was also misaligned by 9.2 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 31 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 4 knots at 300 degrees.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 889 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 143 minutes. The aircraft used 4,874 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at YPPD Port Hedland International Airport, achieving a score of 89.4%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north-west, heading 135.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,759 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 14, which has a length of 2,499 meters.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down with a speed of 140 knots, which was slightly above the target speed. The touchdown distance was good, measuring 216 meters. However, the touchdown rate was quite heavy, at -820 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a relatively steep descent. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.2 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the heavy touchdown rate.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 31°C and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 300°. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a tailwind of 4 knots. The total landing distance was 1,415 meters, which accounted for 57% of the runway length.
During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 8.5 meters. This may have been a result of the initial misalignment during touchdown. Overall, while the landing was successful, there were some areas for improvement, particularly in terms of touchdown speed and alignment.
