Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,146 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 970 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Overall, this aircraft landing showed a mix of both strengths and areas for improvement. The Approach Phase demonstrated good heading alignment and on-target speed, but there was an issue with the descent path being below the glideslope limit. Despite this, the Landing Phase saw a good threshold height, although the landing flare could have been improved.
During the Touchdown Phase, the touchdown rate was fair and the speed was on target, but the aircraft touched down 535 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone and 12.5 meters from the centreline, indicating a need for better precision in landing. Additionally, the aircraft landed with a 9 knot tailwind which is a significant safety concern.
In the Rollout Phase, the runway alignment was 13.4 meters from the centreline, indicating a need for better alignment during landing.
While there were some areas for improvement in this landing, it's important to acknowledge the positive aspects such as the on-target speed and heading alignment. By addressing the weaker points, such as the landing flare and touchdown precision, pilots can strive for safer and more effective landings in the future. Overall, this landing serves as a learning opportunity to focus on improving technique and precision for a smoother and more efficient approach and touchdown.
