MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Arrival
Wait for the normal flare band and the correct speed before raising the nose, rather than starting the flare at 65 ft.
What happened: The flare began at 65 ft, 20 ft above the normal band, and the touchdown followed at 285 fpm. Starting the flare this early usually carries through to a firmer arrival than a flare begun in the normal band.
Watch for: Radio altimeter: hold the flare start within the normal flare band
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,550 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 598 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from London Gatwick Airport, the Airbus A320 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took approximately 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. As it reached the runway, the aircraft started its departure roll on runway 26L, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 154 knots. The takeoff distance of 1,364 meters was 55% of the runway length, indicating a relatively efficient departure.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it passed overhead Charlwood, Surrey, England, marking the beginning of its enroute climb. Over the next 12 minutes, the aircraft ascended from 1,232 feet above sea level to 27,357 feet, an increase of 26,124 feet, while covering a distance of 66 nautical miles. The climb was followed by a level cruise phase, which lasted 4 minutes and covered 12 nautical miles, before the aircraft began its descent towards Jersey Airport. The descent phase started 5 miles southwest of Freshwater, Isle of Wight, and took 16 minutes to complete, during which the aircraft descended from 27,176 feet to 1,947 feet, a decrease of 25,229 feet, while covering a distance of 82 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached Jersey Airport, it began its final approach to runway 08 from the west, heading 83.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,265 feet above ground level. The landing was completed on the runway, with a touchdown point 182 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed of 132 knots was slightly above the target, and the touchdown rate was firm at -309 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.7 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance of 1,304 meters was 84% of the runway length, and the runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 168 nautical miles, and the flight used 1,578 kilograms of fuel.
The final approach to runway 08 at EGJJ Jersey Airport from the west was initiated at 4 nm and 1,265 ft above ground level, heading 83.0°. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a threshold height of 70 ft above ground level, which was well above the target. The threshold speed of 133 kt was slightly above the target, indicating a slight increase in power application during the approach.
As the aircraft touched down 182 m beyond the touchdown zone, the touchdown speed of 132 kt was a little fast, resulting in a firm touchdown rate of -309 fpm. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.7 m from the centreline, which could have been due to a slight deviation in the approach path. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 12 °C and a wind of 8 kt at 190°, contributed to a crosswind of 8 kt and a tailwind of 2 kt.
The total landing distance of 1,304 m was 84% of the runway length, indicating a satisfactory rollout performance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, with the aircraft maintaining a consistent path along the centreline. Overall, the landing performance scored 85.3%, reflecting a good but not exceptional execution of the landing.
