Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 2,011 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,011 m of the 2,617 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 629 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 08 at EIKY Kerry Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,398 meters, which was 70% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 158 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 8°C, with a wind speed of 1 knot at 254°. The crosswind was negligible, but there was a tailwind of 1 knot. As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile east of EIKY Kerry Airport. The climb was from an altitude of 1,168 feet above sea level to 18,195 feet above sea level, an increase of 17,028 feet in 8 minutes, covering a distance of 38 nautical miles.
After the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting overhead Shannon, which lasted 9 minutes and covered 56 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile north of Ballyragget, and descended from 18,208 feet above sea level to 6,933 feet above sea level, a decrease of 11,275 feet in 11 minutes, covering a distance of 56 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 7 miles east of Greystones, which lasted 2 minutes and covered 8 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 14 miles east of Greystones, and descended from 6,541 feet above sea level to 1,495 feet above sea level, a decrease of 5,046 feet in 6 minutes, covering a distance of 21 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 28L at EIDW Dublin Airport was from the east, with a heading of 275.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,269 feet above ground level. The landing was on runway 28L, which had a length of 2,617 meters. The threshold height at 63 feet above ground level was above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 147 knots.
The touchdown point was 218 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 142 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was good at -187 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.7 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 6°C, with a wind speed of 6 knots at 270°. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the headwind was 6 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,935 meters, which was 74% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 9.3 meters from the centreline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 10 minutes and covered 2 nautical miles. The total flight distance was 187 nautical miles, taking 52 minutes, and the aircraft used 1,824 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at Dublin Airport's runway 28L, achieving a score of 92.3%. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 275.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,269 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft successfully touched down on the runway, with the threshold height being above the target at 63 feet agl, indicating a slight deviation from the ideal landing height.
The threshold speed was satisfactory at 147 knots, indicating that the pilot maintained a suitable speed during the approach. However, the touchdown speed of 142 knots was slightly faster than the ideal speed, which may have contributed to a slightly longer landing distance. The touchdown rate of -187 feet per minute (fpm) was within the acceptable range, indicating a controlled descent.
The landing distance of 1,935 meters was 74% of the available runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 9.7 meters, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's alignment during the approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 6°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from 270°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 6 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly faster touchdown speed. Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft coming to a stop within a reasonable distance from the runway threshold.
