Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,223 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,223 ft of the 8,612 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,378 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 21 at KGEG Spokane International Airport. The takeoff distance was 885 feet, which accounted for 8% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 162 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 69°F and a wind speed of 13 knots at 239°. The crosswind was 3 knots, while the headwind was 13 knots. After departing from KGEG, the aircraft began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile southwest of the airport and climbing from 3,402 feet above sea level to 37,658 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,255 feet in 21 minutes and covering 135 nautical miles.
The enroute climb was followed by a level cruise, which started 8 miles northwest of Pilot Rock, Oregon, and lasted for 36 minutes, covering 262 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 11 miles west of Canby, California, and descending from 38,181 feet above sea level to 1,302 feet above sea level, a decrease of 36,879 feet in 34 minutes and covering 162 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 17R at KSMF Sacramento International Airport was made from the north, heading 181.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,263 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 17R, which had a length of 8,612 feet, was successful, with a good threshold height. The threshold speed was slightly above the target at 150 knots, and the touchdown distance was good at 1,376 feet. However, the touchdown speed was a little fast at 148 knots, and the touchdown rate was firm at -387 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 84°F and a wind speed of 2 knots at 180°, with a crosswind of 0 knots and a headwind of 2 knots. The total landing distance was 4,990 feet, which accounted for 58% of the runway.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking from the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 568 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 107 minutes. The aircraft used 9,710 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at Sacramento International Airport (KSMF) on runway 17R, achieving a high score of 98.2%. The final approach was conducted from the north, heading 181.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,263 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was well-executed, with a good threshold height and a slightly above-target threshold speed of 150 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's performance was satisfactory, with a touchdown distance of 1,376 feet, which is within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown speed of 148 knots was slightly faster than the target speed, indicating that the pilots may have needed to apply more braking force upon touchdown. The touchdown rate of -387 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting that the aircraft's wheels were firmly planted on the runway.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilots had successfully aligned the aircraft with the runway centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 84°F and a gentle headwind of 2 knots from 180°. The crosswind component was negligible, at 0 knots.
The total landing distance of 4,990 feet was 58% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the pilots had successfully controlled the aircraft's rotation and deceleration during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was a success, with the aircraft touching down safely and coming to a stop within a reasonable distance.
