Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,866 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 171 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Noorduyn Norseman departed from runway 23 at EGPE Inverness Airport. The take-off roll covered 526 m, representing 28 % of the runway, and liftoff was achieved at 75 kt. Local weather was 15 °C with wind 2 kt from 270°, a 1 kt cross-wind component and a 2 kt head-wind component.
The aircraft entered the left-hand pattern for runway 23. The entry segment was less than 1 nm and required 58 seconds.
A left-hand pattern cross-wind leg followed, also less than 1 nm, and was completed in 24 seconds.
The down-wind turn was executed at a 45-degree angle to the runway, covering 2 nm with a turn heading of 69.2°.
The down-wind leg extended 2 nm and was flown in 49 seconds.
The base turn, again at a 45-degree angle to the runway, covered 1 nm with a turn heading of 56.9°.
The base leg was less than 1 nm and lasted 34 seconds.
The final turn to align with the runway was less than 1 nm and took 24 seconds.
Landing was made on runway 23, whose length is 1,866 m. The threshold speed was 77 kt, above the target. Touchdown occurred 169 m down the runway at 67 kt, with a descent rate of minus 72 fpm. Runway touchdown alignment was very good. Weather at landing was 16 °C with wind 2 kt from 270°, a 1 kt cross-wind component and a 2 kt head-wind component. Total landing distance was 641 m, 34 % of the runway.
Runway rollout alignment was perfect.
The flight covered a total distance of 6nm, taking 6, and used 17 kg of fuel.
The aircraft approached runway 23 in a temperature of 16 °C with a light wind of 2 kt from 270°, a cross-wind component of 1 kt and a head-wind component of 2 kt.
At the threshold the height was good and the speed was well above target at 77 kt.
Touchdown occurred 169 m down the runway, a distance described as good, with a touchdown speed of 67 kt that was a little fast, a vertical rate of -72 fpm rated excellent, and runway touchdown alignment very good.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 641 m, representing 34 % of the 1,866 m runway, and runway rollout alignment was perfect.
Reduce the approach speed to meet the target threshold speed and manage the flare to lower the touchdown speed, which will bring the already high score even closer to optimal performance.
