Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 5,703 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 70 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport, the C750 aircraft began its takeoff roll on runway 16, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 144 kt in 3,076 ft, which was 62% of the available runway length. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 63 °F and a gentle tailwind of 1 kt.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it quickly gained altitude, reaching 15,008 ft in just 6 minutes and covering 30 nm. The enroute climb phase was followed by a level cruise, which lasted for 20 minutes and covered 142 nm. The aircraft then began its descent, reducing its altitude from 15,000 ft to 4,571 ft in 7 minutes and covering 35 nm. A brief level cruise phase followed, lasting just 2 minutes and covering 6 nm. The final approach to runway 30 at Garden City Regional Airport was initiated from the south east, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 316.0 ° at 4 nm and 1,151 ft above ground level.
The landing was executed with a threshold speed slightly below target at 104 kt, and the touchdown distance was good at 53 ft. However, the touchdown rate was hard at -437 fpm, and the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 38 ft from the centreline. The total landing distance was 1,912 ft, which was 34% of the available runway length. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 1 minute, covering less than 1 nm. The total flight distance was 220 nm, and the flight duration was 40 minutes, with no fuel consumed during the flight.
The aircraft, C750, successfully executed a final approach to runway 30 at KGCK Garden City Regional Airport from the south east, aligning with the runway heading of 316.0° at a distance of 4 nm and an altitude of 1,151 ft above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 104 kt, indicating a minor deviation from the optimal landing speed.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft demonstrated a good touchdown distance of 53 ft, with a touchdown speed of 103 kt that was within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown rate was hard at -437 fpm, suggesting a slightly aggressive descent. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 38 ft from the centreline, which may have contributed to the subsequent rollout issues. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 59°F and a light wind of 2 kt at 270°, were generally favorable for the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,912 ft was 34% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 39 ft from the centreline, suggesting some deviation from the desired path. Despite these minor deviations, the overall landing performance of C750 was satisfactory, earning a score of 92.8%.
