MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Arrival
Reduce power earlier on final so speed is back to 138 kt before the gate, not after it.
What happened: Speed control was already loose at the stabilisation gate, and this flight crossed the threshold at 154 kt against a target of 138 kt, 16 kt fast. Carrying excess speed into the gate like this usually carries straight through to a fast threshold crossing.
Watch for: Airspeed indicator, targeting 138 kt by the gate and held to 138 kt at the threshold.
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
At the 500 ft gate: speed 33 kt FAST on the reference speed of 138 kt.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,287 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 439 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport, the Airbus A321 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. As the aircraft lined up on runway 33, the crew prepared for departure, taking into account the local weather conditions, which included a temperature of 12 °C and a wind speed of 25 kt at 290 °. The aircraft lifted off the ground after a takeoff distance of 1,444 meters, or 45% of the runway, and reached a liftoff speed of 170 kt.
As the aircraft climbed to its enroute altitude, it began its ascent from 1,036 feet above sea level to 35,009 feet, an increase of 33,972 feet in 20 minutes, covering a distance of 145 nautical miles. The climb started 1 mile west of Langenhorn, a suburb of Hamburg, and continued over the Danish region of Sjaelland, where the aircraft leveled off at 35,009 feet. The crew then initiated a descent from 35,014 feet to 4,005 feet, a decrease of 31,009 feet in 23 minutes, covering 137 nautical miles. This descent started 1 mile west of EKFD Frederikssund Syd Flyveplads, a small airfield in Denmark. The aircraft then leveled off again at 4,010 feet, this time over the Swedish region of Vaestra Goetaland County, where it remained for 7 minutes, covering 21 nautical miles.
As the aircraft continued its journey, it began its final descent from 4,010 feet to 1,865 feet, a decrease of 2,145 feet in 3 minutes, covering 6 nautical miles. The aircraft then lined up for a final approach to runway 21 at Göteborg Landvetter Airport, a process that involved a heading of 206.0 ° at 4 nautical miles and 1,350 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on the runway, which was 3,287 meters long, and touched down at a speed of 146 kt, with a touchdown distance of 443 meters. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, a process that took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 332 nautical miles, and the aircraft used 3,177 kilograms of fuel during the journey, which lasted 65 minutes.
The final approach to runway 21 at ESGG Göteborg Landvetter Airport from the north east was executed with a heading of 206.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,350 feet above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was well above the target, reaching 155 knots, which may have been due to the prevailing wind conditions. The wind was blowing at 35 knots from 240°, resulting in a crosswind of 19 knots and a headwind of 29 knots.
As the aircraft touched down on the runway, the touchdown distance was good at 443 meters, but the touchdown speed of 146 knots was slightly faster than desired. The touchdown rate of -264 feet per minute was fair, indicating a moderate deceleration. Unfortunately, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.0 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 8°C and the strong wind, may have contributed to the slightly off-centre touchdown.
The total landing distance of 1,267 meters was 39% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled deceleration of the aircraft. Overall, the landing performance was satisfactory, with a score of 96.1%. While there were some minor deviations from the desired parameters, the pilot's skills and the aircraft's handling characteristics ensured a safe and controlled landing.
