Flight Score
Arrival
Begin the flare with progressive back pressure and keep it coming until the sink is arrested, rather than flying it on flat.
What happened: The nose was barely raised in the flare and little of the sink was taken out, flying the aircraft onto the runway. This pattern usually carries through to a firm touchdown with a noticeable sink rate.
Watch for: Vertical speed indicator: a smoothly reducing sink through the normal flare band, not a steady rate into the runway.
Preparing for a stable approach will give you time to decide on whether to attempt the landing or going around. Too much altitude with a high sink rate will result in carrying too much speed onto the runway. Configuring flaps and the gear late also won't help the speed decay.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,524 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 414 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 5 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 20L at ZGGG Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. The takeoff distance was 848 meters, which was 27% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 156 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 24 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 140 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed out of Guangzhou, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport. The climb took 18 minutes and covered a distance of 51 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,090 feet above sea level to 36,796 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,706 feet. The enroute level cruise then began 27 miles north of Qingyuan, China, and lasted for 72 minutes, covering a distance of 428 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent, which started 28 miles north of Shaxi, China. The descent took 23 minutes and covered a distance of 60 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from 36,590 feet above sea level to 2,598 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,992 feet. The final approach to landing was then initiated, and the aircraft began its descent from 1,264 feet above ground level to 0 feet above ground level, a decrease of 43 feet in just 5 seconds.
The aircraft touched down at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, with a touchdown speed of 131 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was firm at -333 feet per minute, and the touchdown distance was good at 414 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 3 knots at 19 degrees.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 550 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 130 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 5,459 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport with a score of 86.3%. The final approach to landing was executed from 1 nautical mile to 1 nautical mile at an altitude of 1,264 feet above ground level (agl). As the aircraft approached the touchdown point, it descended from 43 feet agl to 0 feet agl, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The touchdown speed of 131 knots was slightly above the optimal speed, which may have resulted in a firm touchdown rate of -333 feet per minute (fpm). However, the touchdown distance of 414 meters was considered good, indicating that the aircraft's speed and control were well-managed during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 3 knots from a direction of 19 degrees. The crosswind component was negligible, with a headwind of 3 knots. These conditions likely contributed to the smooth and controlled landing.
Following the touchdown, the aircraft underwent a landing rollout, during which it maintained an altitude of 1,322 feet above sea level (asl). The distance covered during the rollout was 1,181 meters, indicating a relatively short and controlled period of deceleration.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft demonstrating good control and management of speed and altitude. However, the slightly high touchdown speed and firm touchdown rate may indicate areas for improvement in the pilot's landing technique.
