Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 4,992 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the full 4,992 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 320 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 23 at KBPK Ozark Regional Airport, a Cessna CJ4 Citation aircraft taking to the skies. The takeoff distance required was 962 feet, which accounted for 19% of the runway. The liftoff speed was achieved at 137 knots, marking the start of the aircraft's ascent.
As the aircraft climbed, it began to ascend from an altitude of 1,576 feet above sea level to 1,859 feet above sea level, a gain of 283 feet in just one minute. This climb phase covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The enroute climb started approximately 2 miles southeast of Lakeview, Arkansas.
Upon reaching the destination, the aircraft began its final approach to runway 22 at KFLP Marion County Regional Airport. The approach was made from the northeast, with the aircraft heading 262.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,207 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 22 was executed smoothly, with the threshold height being good and the threshold speed slightly below the target at 93 knots. The touchdown distance was also good, measuring 316 feet, and the touchdown speed was 90 knots, which was within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -291 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 59 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270 degrees, with minimal crosswind and headwind.
The total landing distance was 1,395 feet, which accounted for 28% of the runway. The aircraft's performance during the landing phase was satisfactory, with the total flight distance being 7 nautical miles and the flight duration being 4 minutes. Notably, the aircraft used zero pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna CJ4 Citation successfully landed at KFLP Marion County Regional Airport, achieving a score of 98.0%. The aircraft approached the runway from the northeast, heading 262.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,207 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise final approach, taking into account the runway's length of 4,992 feet and the local weather conditions.
The temperature at the time of landing was 59°F, with a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind and headwind, both at 1 knot. The aircraft's threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 93 knots. This indicates that the pilot maintained control and managed the aircraft's speed effectively during the approach.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was 90 knots, which is within the acceptable range. The touchdown distance of 316 feet was also good, indicating that the pilot had sufficient control over the aircraft's descent. However, the touchdown rate of -291 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, suggesting that the pilot could have managed the descent more smoothly.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot had maintained the aircraft's heading and alignment with the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to control the aircraft's direction and speed during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down within the acceptable distance and speed parameters. The pilot's skills and experience were evident in the precise execution of the final approach and landing.
