Improve the rollout
A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,542 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,542 m of the 3,060 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 338 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at SKBO El Dorado International Airport in Bogota, Colombia. This process took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 14R, with a takeoff distance of 2,180 meters, which accounted for 57% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 161 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Bogota, it encountered local weather conditions of 20°C temperature and winds of 23 knots at 170 degrees. The crosswind was 15 knots, while the headwind was 17 knots. The enroute climb started overhead the airport, with the aircraft ascending from 9,364 feet above sea level to 39,410 feet above sea level, an increase of 30,046 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 105 nautical miles.
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise 2 miles north-west of Caramanta, Colombia, and remained at this altitude for 27 minutes, covering a distance of 197 nautical miles. The enroute descent then started 7 miles north of MPBP Bahia Pinas, Panama, with the aircraft descending from 39,414 feet above sea level to 28,640 feet above sea level, a decrease of 10,774 feet in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 39 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise 11 miles east of MP26 Punta Cocos Airport, Panama, and remained at this altitude for 18 minutes, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The enroute descent then started 9 miles east of MP26 Punta Cocos Airport, with the aircraft descending from 27,841 feet above sea level to 4,170 feet above sea level, a decrease of 23,671 feet in 12 minutes, covering a distance of 63 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise 3 miles north of Taboga, Panama, and remained at this altitude for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles. The enroute descent then started 5 miles south-east of San Felipe, Panama, with the aircraft descending from 3,674 feet above sea level to 1,321 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,353 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 03R at MPTO Tocumen International Airport was made from the south-west, with the aircraft heading 29.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,275 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 03R, which had a length of 3,060 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 133 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 340 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 127 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -242 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.6 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 29°C temperature and winds of 7 knots at 280 degrees, with a crosswind of 7 knots and a tailwind of 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,462 meters, which accounted for 48% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.1 meters from the centreline. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 427 nautical miles, taking 82 minutes, and the aircraft used 3,107 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at MPTO Tocumen International Airport, achieving a score of 96.9%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southwest, heading 29.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,275 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with good threshold height, indicating that the aircraft was properly configured for landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was within the acceptable range at 133 knots. However, the touchdown speed of 127 knots was slightly faster than desired, which may have resulted in a slightly higher touchdown rate. The touchdown rate of -242 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft's descent was not excessively steep.
The landing distance of 1,462 meters was 48% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. This indicates that the pilot executed a smooth and controlled approach, resulting in a relatively short landing roll. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.6 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's alignment during the approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 29°C and a wind speed of 7 knots from 280°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the tailwind component was 2 knots. These conditions may have affected the aircraft's performance during the approach and landing, but the pilot's skills and experience likely helped to mitigate any potential issues.
During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.1 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's control inputs during the landing roll. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft coming to a stop within a relatively short distance from the runway threshold.
