Monitor your taxi speed
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,975 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 367 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 3 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-900, then departed from runway 20 at Christchurch International Airport (NZCH). The takeoff distance was 363 meters, which accounted for 11% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 159 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 12 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 13 knots at 201 degrees. The crosswind was 4 knots, while the headwind was 12 knots. The enroute climb began approximately 1 mile southwest of Christchurch International Airport and saw the aircraft ascend from 1,157 feet above sea level to 34,461 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,303 feet in 30 minutes, covering a distance of 185 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 32 miles northeast of Takaka Airport (NZTB). This phase lasted for 251 minutes and covered a distance of 2,198 nautical miles. The enroute descent began at a specific latitude and longitude, and the aircraft descended from 35,043 feet above sea level to 1,545 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,499 feet in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 134 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 04 at Faa'a International Airport (NTAA) was made from the southwest, with the aircraft heading at 54.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,505 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 04 was successful, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 129 knots and a touchdown rate of -196 feet per minute. The touchdown distance was 369 meters, which was 29% of the runway length.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 27 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots at 170 degrees. The crosswind was 2 knots, while the tailwind was 1 knot. The total landing distance was 860 meters, and the runway rollout alignment was perfect. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 2,524 nautical miles and lasted for 298 minutes, using 16,262 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 737-900 aircraft successfully landed at NTAA Faa'a International Airport, showcasing exceptional piloting skills and adherence to standard operating procedures. The final approach to runway 04 was initiated from the southwest, with the aircraft heading at 54.0° and maintaining a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. At an altitude of 1,505 feet above ground level (agl), the pilots expertly guided the aircraft towards the runway, ensuring a smooth and controlled descent.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 136 knots, which is well within the acceptable threshold speed range. The touchdown distance of 369 meters was also satisfactory, indicating that the pilots had effectively managed the aircraft's descent and approach speed. The touchdown speed of 129 knots was slightly lower than the threshold speed, but still within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -196 feet per minute (fpm) was also well within the standard limits.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 27°C and a gentle wind of 2 knots from 170°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, and the tailwind component was even weaker at 1 knot. These conditions contributed to a stable and predictable approach, allowing the pilots to focus on executing a precise and controlled landing.
The total landing distance of 860 meters was only 29% of the runway length, indicating that the pilots had effectively managed the aircraft's speed and descent rate to achieve a short and controlled landing. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating the pilots' ability to maintain control of the aircraft during the critical phase of landing.
Overall, the landing of the Boeing 737-900 at NTAA Faa'a International Airport was a textbook example of safe and efficient flight operations. The pilots' exceptional skills and adherence to standard procedures ensured a smooth and controlled landing, with all parameters well within the acceptable range.
