MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,667 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 233 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A321, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at LOWI Innsbruck Airport. This process took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 08, and the takeoff distance was 1,095 meters, which accounted for 58% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 143 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 9°C temperature and a wind speed of 7 knots at 110°. The crosswind was 4 knots, while the headwind was 6 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Innsbruck, with the aircraft ascending from 2,939 feet above sea level to 32,630 feet above sea level, a total increase of 29,691 feet in 17 minutes and covering 97 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began overhead Mehrstetten, Germany, and lasted for 73 minutes, covering a distance of 491 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent from 31,746 feet above sea level to 14,894 feet above sea level, a decrease of 16,852 feet in 13 minutes and covering 35 nautical miles. This was followed by another enroute level cruise, which started 1 mile south of High Peak, England, and lasted for 36 minutes, covering less than 1 nautical mile.
The enroute descent from 14,894 feet above sea level to 3,494 feet above sea level took 9 minutes and covered 29 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another enroute level cruise, which started overhead Leeds, England, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 2 nautical miles. The final enroute descent started 2 miles east of Leeds and took the aircraft from 2,906 feet above sea level to 1,470 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,436 feet in 3 minutes and covering 7 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise that followed started overhead Yeadon, England, and lasted for 4 minutes, covering 3 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 14 at EGNM Leeds Bradford Airport, heading 137.0° at 3 nautical miles and 800 feet above ground level.
The landing took place on runway 14, which had a length of 1,667 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 129 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 234 meters, and the touchdown speed was 125 knots, which was also good. However, the touchdown rate was very hard at -520 feet per minute.
The total landing distance was 1,058 meters, which accounted for 63% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.2 meters from the centreline. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 672 nautical miles, took 131 minutes, and used 5,512 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at EGNM Leeds Bradford Airport, achieving a score of 94.6%. The final approach was conducted from the north-west, heading 137.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 800 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 14, which has a length of 1,667 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 129 knots. However, the touchdown distance of 234 meters was considered good, and the touchdown speed of 125 knots was also within acceptable limits. Unfortunately, the touchdown rate was very hard, coming in at -520 feet per minute (fpm), which may indicate a need for further improvement in the landing technique.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 6°C and winds of 15 knots at a direction of 4°. This resulted in a crosswind of 11 knots and a tailwind of 11 knots, which may have affected the aircraft's performance during the landing. Despite these conditions, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained good control and alignment during the final approach.
However, the total landing distance of 1,058 meters was 63% of the runway length, which may be considered slightly long. Additionally, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.2 meters from the centreline, which may indicate a need for further improvement in the pilot's ability to maintain alignment during the rollout phase. Overall, while the landing was successful, there are areas for improvement to achieve a higher score.
