Improve the rollout
A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,724 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,724 m of the 2,986 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 270 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 05 at LTFD Balıkesir Koca Seyit Airport. The takeoff distance was 868 meters, which accounted for 31% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 146 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 35°C, with a wind speed of 30 knots at a direction of 29°. This resulted in a crosswind of 12 knots and a headwind of 28 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south of Edremit, Balikesir, Turkey. The climb took 8 minutes and covered 37 nautical miles, with the aircraft ascending from 1,070 feet above sea level to 20,866 feet above sea level, a total increase of 19,796 feet.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 8 miles west of Gonen, Balikesir, Turkey. This cruise lasted for 2 minutes and covered 10 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 8 miles north of Gonen, and descended from 21,535 feet above sea level to 18,894 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,640 feet, in 2 minutes and covering 10 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 4 miles south east of Erdek, Balikesir, Turkey. This cruise lasted for 2 minutes and covered 9 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent again, starting 4 miles north east of Bandirma, Balikesir, Turkey. This descent took 11 minutes and covered 47 nautical miles, with the aircraft descending from 18,504 feet above sea level to 3,119 feet above sea level, a total decrease of 15,385 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 9 miles south west of Kinali, Istanbul, Turkey. This cruise lasted for 5 minutes and covered 13 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 06L at LTFJ Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport was made from the south west, with the aircraft heading 64.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,488 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 06L was successful, with a touchdown distance of 268 meters, which was good. However, the touchdown speed of 138 knots was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was very hard at -553 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 22.0 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 29°C, with a wind speed of 21 knots at a direction of 40°. This resulted in a crosswind of 9 knots and a headwind of 19 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,637 meters, which accounted for 55% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 26.7 meters from the centreline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 133 nautical miles, taking 36 minutes, and the aircraft used 1,743 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed on runway 06L at LTFJ Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, achieving an overall score of 83.7%. The final approach was initiated from the southwest, heading 64.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,488 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 139 knots.
However, there were some areas of improvement. The touchdown speed of 138 knots was slightly faster than desired, and the touchdown rate was quite hard at -553 feet per minute (fpm). Furthermore, the runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 22.0 meters from the centerline, which could have contributed to the hard touchdown rate.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 29°C and a wind speed of 21 knots at 40°. The crosswind component was 9 knots, while the headwind component was 19 knots. These conditions may have affected the aircraft's performance during the landing.
The total landing distance was 1,637 meters, which accounted for 55% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 26.7 meters from the centerline, indicating that the aircraft may have deviated from the intended path during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the landing was successful, there were some areas of concern that need to be addressed to improve the aircraft's performance and safety.
