Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out. These checks are the approach's score.
At the 300 ft gate: centreline 1.5° off, against a 1° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,710 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 172 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The OV-10 Bronco taxied from the parking area to runway 02 at LPPT Humberto Delgado Airport, a movement that required 8 minutes and covered 5 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 02, the aircraft used 422 m of runway, representing 11 % of the available length, and lifted off at 106 kt. Ambient conditions were a temperature of 29 °C, wind 16 kt from 340°, with a cross-wind component of 11 kt and a head-wind component of 12 kt.
Climb commenced overhead Camarate, rising from 1,268 ft asl to 2,582 ft asl, an increase of 1,314 ft achieved in 2 minutes while covering 5 nm.
Level cruise began 1 mile east of Moscavide e Portela and continued for 2 minutes, during which the aircraft traveled 5 nm.
Descent started 1 mile east of Lisbon, descending from 2,083 ft asl to 1,446 ft asl, a loss of 637 ft in 2 minutes and covering 4 nm.
A go-around was executed on runway 02 at LPPT, with the aircraft climbing to 525 ft agl before re-establishing a missed-approach profile.
The final approach to runway 02 proceeded from 441 ft agl down to -19 ft agl in 32 seconds, with the aircraft scoring on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 02, which is 3,710 m long, was performed with a threshold speed of 87 kt (slightly below target). Touchdown occurred 171 m from the threshold at 84 kt, with a vertical speed of minus 135 fpm. The touchdown point was offset by 5.9 m from the centreline. Weather at landing was a temperature of 27 °C, wind 16 kt from 340°, cross-wind 11 kt and head-wind 12 kt.
Runway rollout alignment was reported as very good, and the total landing distance measured 1,086 m, representing 29 % of the runway length.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 61 nm, lasted 31 minutes, and consumed 156 kg of fuel.
The final approach to runway 02 at LPPT was conducted with a descent from 441 ft agl to -19 ft agl completed in 32 seconds and the aircraft scored on the stabilisation gates.
At threshold the speed was recorded at 87 kt, a little below the target, and the flare produced a touchdown speed of 84 kt with a smooth vertical rate of minus 135 fpm.
Touchdown occurred 171 m down the runway at 84 kt and minus 135 fpm, with the wheel track positioned 5.9 m off the centreline.
The rollout covered a total distance of 1,086 m, representing 29 % of the 3,710 m runway, and the alignment during rollout was very good.
Fine-tuning the approach speed to meet the target value and tightening the final alignment to reduce the 5.9 m centreline offset will bring the already strong performance even closer to optimal.
