Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 152 m above the runway. The 305 m gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,548 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,548 m of the 2,483 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 632 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 7 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The Airbus A320 then departed from runway 24 at LEIB Ibiza Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,665 meters, which accounted for 60% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 173 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of LEIB Ibiza Airport, it began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south west of the airport. The climb took 22 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 293 meters above sea level to 11,580 meters above sea level, an increase of 11,287.9 meters. The climb covered a distance of 138 nautical miles.
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 2 miles north west of Creixell, Spain. This phase of the flight lasted 60 minutes and covered 437 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile north of Walkringen, Switzerland. The descent took 16 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 11,581 meters above sea level to 3,047 meters above sea level, a decrease of 8,533.7 meters. The descent covered a distance of 106 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 1 mile south of Enzkloesterle, Germany. This phase of the flight lasted 5 minutes and covered 24 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 1 mile south west of Weingarten, Germany. The descent took 8 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 3,044 meters above sea level to 512 meters above sea level, a decrease of 2,532.7 meters. The descent covered a distance of 19 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 21 at EDSB Karlsruhe Baden-Baden Airport was made from the north east, with a heading of 212.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 385.3 meters above ground level. The aircraft landed on runway 21, which had a length of 2,483 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 131 knots.
The touchdown point was 210 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 123 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was excellent at -0.4 meters per second. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.4 meters from the centerline. The local weather at the time of landing was 19 degrees Celsius.
The total landing distance was 1,461 meters, which accounted for 59% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, a process that took 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 731 nautical miles, and the flight took 126 minutes. The aircraft used 4,265 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at Karlsruhe Baden-Baden Airport, achieving a high score of 90.4%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 212.0° at an altitude of 385.3 meters above ground level (agl) and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The final approach was executed at a suitable altitude, taking into account the runway length of 2,483 meters.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was slightly below the target speed of 131 knots, but the touchdown speed of 123 knots was still within acceptable limits. The touchdown point was 210 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight deviation from the intended landing path. However, the touchdown rate of -0.4 meters per second was excellent, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 19°C. The total landing distance of 1,461 meters was 59% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively, allowing for a stable and controlled deceleration.
One area for improvement is the slight misalignment of the runway touchdown position, which was 6.4 meters off-centerline. This may be due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's heading or a minor error in the pilot's navigation. Nevertheless, the overall performance of the Airbus A320 during the landing was impressive, and the pilots demonstrated excellent skills and control throughout the maneuver.
