Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 152 m above the runway. The 305 m gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,130 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 246 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking to the runway at Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport, taking approximately 6 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 35L, with the takeoff distance being 1,447 meters, which is 36% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 158 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it started its enroute climb 1 mile south east of Pusignan, France, rising from 547 meters above sea level to 1,155 meters above sea level, an increase of 608.6 meters in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then began 1 mile south of Jons, France, lasting 2 minutes and covering 5 nautical miles.
The aircraft then started another enroute climb 1 mile south east of Beligneux, France, this time rising from 1,219 meters above sea level to 11,826 meters above sea level, an increase of 10,607 meters in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 105 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then started overhead Cafasse, Italy, lasting 9 minutes and covering 213 nautical miles.
As the aircraft began its descent, it started from 3 miles south east of Chitignano, Italy, descending from 11,886 meters above sea level to 1,219 meters above sea level, a decrease of 10,666.7 meters in 23 minutes, covering a distance of 122 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then started 12 miles east of Silvi, Italy, lasting 2 minutes and covering 4 nautical miles.
The aircraft then started its final descent 8 miles north east of Pescara, Italy, descending from 1,048 meters above sea level to 424 meters above sea level, a decrease of 624.3 meters in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 22 at Abruzzo Airport took place from the north east, heading 217.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 409.2 meters above ground level.
The landing on runway 22 at Abruzzo Airport was successful, with the touchdown distance being 245 meters, the touchdown speed being 129 knots, and the touchdown rate being firm at -1.9 meters per second. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 8 degrees Celsius.
The total landing distance was 1,350 meters, which is 63% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good, and the aircraft taxiing to the parking from the runway took less than 1 minute, covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 463 nautical miles, taking 63 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,833 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed at LIBP Abruzzo Airport, achieving a high score of 96.8%. The final approach to runway 22 was initiated from the north east, with a heading of 217.0° at an altitude of 409.2 meters above ground level (agl) and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 129 knots, which was slightly below the target threshold speed. However, this did not affect the overall performance of the landing, as the touchdown distance of 245 meters was considered good. The touchdown speed and rate were also within acceptable limits, with a speed of 129 knots and a rate of -1.9 meters per second, respectively.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 8°C, which did not appear to have any significant impact on the aircraft's performance.
The total landing distance of 1,350 meters was 63% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly controlled during the rollout phase of the landing.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score and demonstrating good control and precision during the approach and landing phases.
