Reduce your height at the threshold
Even a modest height error carries straight through to the touchdown. Geometry alone says that crossing the threshold 10 feet high on a 3° path moves your touchdown roughly 190 feet further down the runway before the flare adds anything.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 765 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 765 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 397 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Cessna 172 taxied from the parking area to the departure runway at EGCJ Sherburn-In-Elmet Airfield in 2 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 06, the aircraft used 302 m of runway, representing 43 % of the available length, and lifted off at 63 kt. Ambient conditions were 15 °C with a wind of 7 kt from 076°, including a 2 kt crosswind component and a 7 kt headwind.
The climb commenced 1 mile south-east of Church Fenton, rising from 1,033 ft asl to 4,535 ft asl, an altitude gain of 3,502 ft achieved in 4 minutes while covering 7 nm.
Level cruise began 1 mile south of Tadcaster and continued for 9 minutes, during which the aircraft travelled 15 nm.
Descent operations started 2 miles south-west of Great Ouseburn, descending from 4,956 ft asl to 1,872 ft asl, a loss of 3,084 ft over 9 minutes and a distance of 10 nm.
The final approach to runway 03 at EGAI Yorkshire Gliding Club was executed from the south-west on a heading of 26.0° at 3 nm and 1,011 ft agl.
Landing on runway 03, which is 765 m long, was performed with a threshold speed of 62 kt. The touchdown occurred beyond the midpoint of the runway, using more than 50 % of its length, at a speed of 60 kt and a descent rate of minus 170 fpm; alignment was perfect. Local weather at the aerodrome was 13 °C with a wind of 7 kt from 076°, a 5 kt crosswind and a 5 kt headwind.
Rollout continued for a distance of 512 m, representing 67 % of the runway, and the aircraft maintained perfect alignment throughout the ground run.
In total, the flight covered 36 nm, required 29 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 8 kg of fuel.
The final approach to runway 03 at EGAI Yorkshire Gliding Club was flown from the south-west on a heading of 26.0° at 3 NM and 1,011 ft agl. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits. Local weather was 13 °C with wind 7 kt from 076°, giving a 5 kt headwind and 5 kt crosswind component.
During the threshold and flare phase the threshold height was good and the threshold speed was good at 62 kt.
Touchdown occurred well beyond the intended aim point, using more than 50 % of the available 765 m runway. Touchdown speed was a little fast at 60 kt, while the vertical rate was good at minus 170 fpm and runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
Rollout alignment remained perfect and the total landing distance was 512 m, representing 67 % of the runway length.
For future flights, aim to achieve touchdown nearer the 300 m (1,000 ft) aim point to reduce runway usage, and consider reducing the final speed a few knots to better match the target speed while preserving a smooth flare.
