Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.

The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A321 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at VNKT Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. This process took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 02, with a takeoff distance of 8,357 feet, which was 87% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 162 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Kathmandu, it encountered local weather conditions of 78°F temperature and a wind speed of 0 knots at 276°. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 2 miles north of the airport and reaching an altitude of 34,333 feet above sea level. This climb phase covered a distance of 150 nautical miles and took 22 minutes, with an increase in altitude of 28,826 feet.
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, starting 10 miles southwest of Araria in the state of Bihar, India. This phase lasted for 121 minutes and covered a distance of 943 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 28 miles southwest of Huai Khot in Changwat Uthai Thani, Thailand. The descent phase covered a distance of 98 nautical miles and took 16 minutes, with a decrease in altitude of 31,149 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 6 miles northwest of VTON Klong 15 Airfield Ongkharak in Changwat Nakhon Nayok, Thailand. This phase lasted for only 3 minutes and covered a distance of 14 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 3 miles southeast of Ban Lam Luk Ka in Changwat Pathum Thani, Thailand. The descent phase covered a distance of 10 nautical miles and took 3 minutes, with a decrease in altitude of 2,180 feet.
The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 20R at VTBS Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand. The approach was made from the north, with a heading of 194.0° and an altitude of 1,243 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on the runway, with a touchdown distance of 946 feet and a touchdown speed of 129 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -222 feet per minute, but the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 82°F temperature and a wind speed of 2 knots at 230°. The crosswind and headwind components were both 1 knot. The total landing distance was 4,501 feet, which was 34% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking 5 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,226 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 182 minutes. The aircraft used 15,544 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport's runway 20R, achieving a high score of 99.7%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north, heading 194.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,243 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot's final approach was well-executed, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 135 knots, which is within the recommended range.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft performed well, with a touchdown distance of 946 feet, which is within the acceptable range. The touchdown speed of 129 knots was also good, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. However, the touchdown rate of -222 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair, suggesting that the aircraft may have touched down slightly harder than desired. Nevertheless, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 82°F and a light wind of 2 knots from 230°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, and the headwind component was also 1 knot, which helped to reduce the landing distance. The total landing distance of 4,501 feet was 34% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight.
During the rollout, the aircraft performed perfectly, with a perfect runway rollout alignment. This indicates that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft and smoothly transitioned from the landing phase to the rollout phase, ensuring a safe and controlled stop at the end of the runway. Overall, the landing was a success, with the pilot demonstrating excellent skills and judgment in executing a safe and efficient landing.
