Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,866 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 171 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The 0.28 G arrival is the firm side of smooth.
The rest of the report
The Noorduyn Norseman departed from runway 23 at EGPE Inverness Airport, using a take-off roll of 586 m which represented 31 % of the available runway. Liftoff was achieved at 78 kt. Ambient conditions were 16 °C with a wind from 269° at 2 kt, providing a 2 kt head-wind component and a 1 kt cross-wind component.
The aircraft entered the left-hand traffic pattern for runway 23, covering a distance of less than 1 nm in 60 seconds.
Continuing the left-hand pattern, the crosswind leg was flown for less than 1 nm in 25 seconds.
During the downwind turn, the aircraft described a 2 nm arc with an angle to the runway of 70.3° measured on a 45° reference.
The downwind leg itself extended 2 nm and was completed in 51 seconds.
The base-leg turn was a 1 nm maneuver with an angle to the runway of 56.8° on a 45° reference.
The base leg was flown for less than 1 nm in 35 seconds.
The final turn to the runway approach covered less than 1 nm in 26 seconds.
Landing was executed on runway 23, whose length is 1,866 m. The threshold speed was recorded at 76 kt, above the target. Touchdown occurred 163 m down the runway at 67 kt with a vertical speed of minus 54 fpm, and the aircraft aligned well with the centreline. The total landing roll measured 637 m, representing 34 % of the runway, and rollout alignment was maintained throughout.
In total, the flight covered 6 nm, required 5 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 9 kg of fuel.
The approach to runway 23 at EGPE Inverness was conducted in calm conditions with a temperature of 16 °C, wind 2 kt from 269°, a 1 kt cross-wind and a 2 kt head-wind. The threshold height was good and the aircraft crossed the threshold at 76 kt, which was well above the target speed.
During the flare the aircraft achieved a touchdown distance of 163 m, a touchdown speed of 67 kt and a touchdown rate of minus 54 fpm, all of which were judged good or excellent. Runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The total landing distance measured 637 m, representing 34 % of the 1 866 m runway, indicating a comfortable margin after touchdown.
Rollout alignment was perfect, keeping the aircraft centered on the runway centreline through the deceleration phase.
To refine the already strong performance, aim to reduce the threshold speed toward the target value, which will further increase safety margins without affecting the excellent touchdown characteristics. Maintaining the current flare technique will preserve the excellent rate and alignment already demonstrated.
