Improve the takeoff
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,516 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 441 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A320ceo taxied from the parking area to runway 13R at KSAT San Antonio International Airport, a movement that lasted 39 minutes and covered 6 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 13R, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 154 kt and left the ground after a take-off distance of 1,419 m, representing 55 % of the runway. Ambient conditions were a temperature of 30 °C with a wind of 15 kt from 130°, providing a headwind component of 15 kt and a cross-wind component of 0 kt.
The en-route climb commenced overhead KSAT, climbing from 1,690 ft asl to 38,009 ft asl, an altitude gain of 36,319 ft achieved in 22 minutes while covering 148 nm.
Level cruise began 8 miles southwest of Sonora, Texas, and persisted for 149 minutes, during which the aircraft traversed 1,071 nm.
Descent operations started 7 miles south of San Ardo, California, with the aircraft descending from 38,033 ft asl to 1,335 ft asl, a loss of 36,698 ft completed in 25 minutes over a distance of 128 nm.
The final approach to runway 28R at KSFO San Francisco International Airport was executed from the southeast on a heading of 298.0°, entering the approach at 4 nm and 1,312 ft agl. The aircraft then descended from 1,363 ft agl to 49 ft agl in 104 seconds, successfully scoring on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 28R, which measures 3,516 m, was achieved with a threshold speed slightly above target at 133 kt. Touchdown occurred 444 m down the runway at a speed of 124 kt, with a vertical speed of minus 196 fpm. The touchdown point was offset 4.4 m from the centreline. Local weather at the time was 16 °C with a wind of 7 kt from 230°, yielding a cross-wind component of 7 kt and a head-wind component of 3 kt. The total landing distance recorded was 1,343 m, representing 38 % of the runway length.
Runway rollout alignment was assessed as very good.
After landing, the aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 1,364 nm, required 218 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 0 kg of fuel.
The Airbus A320ceo approached runway 28R at KSFO from the south-east on a heading of 298.0° at 4 nm and 1,312 ft agl. The final approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits, and the aircraft descended from 1,363 ft agl to 49 ft agl in 104 seconds.
At threshold the height was good and the threshold speed was slightly above target at 133 kt.
Touchdown occurred 444 m down the runway, with a touchdown speed of 124 kt that was a little fast, a touchdown rate of minus 196 fpm that was good, and the touchdown point was slightly misaligned by 4.4 m from the centreline.
The total landing distance was 1,343 m, representing 38 % of the 3,516 m runway, and the runway rollout alignment was very good.
Refine speed control to achieve the target threshold speed and reduce the touchdown speed to the intended value, and focus on centreline tracking to eliminate the 4.4 m offset at touchdown.
