Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,391 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 246 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The Airbus A321 then departed from runway 08R at LROP Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport, with a takeoff distance of 981 meters, which accounted for 28% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 169 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 5 knots at a direction of 60 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 5 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northwest of Tunari in Ilfov, Romania. The climb took 14 minutes and covered a distance of 65 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,342 feet above sea level to 37,309 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,967 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile southwest of Calmatuiu de Sus in Teleorman, Romania. This phase lasted for 48 minutes and covered a distance of 332 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 11 miles east of Psara in the North Aegean, Greece. The descent took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 85 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 37,250 feet above sea level to 14,542 feet above sea level, a decrease of 22,709 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 7 miles north of LGLE Leros Airport on Leros Island in the South Aegean, Greece. This phase lasted for 5 minutes and covered a distance of 24 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 5 miles southwest of LGKY Kalymnos Airport on Kalymnos Island in the South Aegean, Greece. The descent took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 18 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 14,054 feet above sea level to 1,654 feet above sea level, a decrease of 12,400 feet.
The final approach to runway 32 at LGKO Kos Airport was made from the southeast, with the aircraft heading 328.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,254 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 32, which had a length of 2,391 meters. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 121 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 247 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 117 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -373 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 18.0 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 17.9 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 13 knots at a direction of 0 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 11 knots.
The total landing distance was 815 meters, which accounted for 34% of the runway. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 531 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 99 minutes. The aircraft used 3,787 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at LGKO Kos Airport, with a final approach from the south east, heading 328.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,254 feet above ground level. The aircraft touched down on runway 32, which has a length of 2,391 meters. The threshold height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 121 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was a little fast at 117 knots, and the touchdown rate was firm at -373 feet per minute. However, the touchdown distance was good at 247 meters. The runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 18.0 meters from the centreline, which may have contributed to the subsequent rollout alignment issues.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 25°C and a wind speed of 13 knots at 0°. The crosswind was 7 knots, and the headwind was 11 knots, which may have affected the aircraft's alignment during the landing. The total landing distance was 815 meters, which is 34% of the runway length.
During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was again misaligned by 17.9 meters from the centreline. This may indicate a need for the pilots to adjust their landing technique or for the airport to consider improving the runway's centreline markings to aid in alignment during landing and rollout. Overall, the landing was successful, but there are areas for improvement to ensure a more precise and controlled touchdown and rollout.
