Flight Score
Arrival
Add power on short final to hold speed at 69 kt, correcting the slow threshold speed before it carries through to the flare.
What happened: Threshold speed was slow at 59 kt against 69 kt, and touchdown followed short of the aim point at 131 m. Crossing the threshold slow like this usually carries the touchdown short.
Watch for: Airspeed indicator against 69 kt on short final.
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,797 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 131 m short of the threshold. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Calvi-Sainte-Catherine Airport, LFKC, took less than a minute, covering a short distance of less than one nautical mile. The Cessna 208B then began its departure roll on runway 36, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 79 knots. The takeoff distance of 472 meters accounted for only 22% of the runway length. Local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 15°C, with a light wind of 1 knot from 269°.
As the aircraft climbed out of Calvi, it began its enroute climb, ascending from 987 feet above sea level to 7,706 feet in just six minutes, covering a distance of 13 nautical miles. The climb rate was impressive, with an increase of 6,719 feet in a relatively short period. The aircraft then leveled off and entered a cruise phase, maintaining a steady altitude for 29 minutes as it covered 86 nautical miles. This was followed by a series of descents and level cruises, with the aircraft navigating through the skies above Corsica and Tuscany, Italy. The final descent began 3 miles northeast of San Giuliano Terme, with the aircraft descending from 2,861 feet to 1,696 feet in just two minutes.
The Cessna 208B then began its final approach to runway 22L at Pisa International Airport, LIRP, from the northeast. Touchdown occurred before the threshold, with a speed of 58 knots and a hard touchdown rate of -458 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned, with the aircraft deviating 8 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance of 467 meters accounted for 17% of the runway length. After a short taxiing period, the aircraft arrived at the parking area, having completed a total flight distance of 139 nautical miles in 63 minutes, with a fuel consumption of 200 kilograms.
The final approach to runway 22L at LIRP Pisa International Airport was initiated from the north east, heading 217.0° at 4 nm and 1,686 ft above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a steady descent rate and a stable airspeed. The aircraft touched down before the threshold, indicating a slightly aggressive approach. The touchdown speed of 58 kt was within the acceptable range, but the touchdown rate of -458 fpm was hard, suggesting a possible need for adjustment in the flare.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft was found to be misaligned with the centreline by 8.0 m, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or a miscalculation of the touchdown point. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 15 °C and a light wind of 1 kt at 270°, did not pose any significant challenges to the landing. The total landing distance of 467 m was 17% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range.
During the rollout phase, the aircraft was found to be slightly misaligned with the centreline by 7.8 m. This deviation may have been due to a combination of factors, including the initial touchdown misalignment and the aircraft's response to the brakes. Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with a score of 95.4%. However, the hard touchdown rate and the misalignment during the rollout phase suggest areas for improvement in the pilot's technique and decision-making.
