Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 9,320 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,521 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight departed from Springdale Municipal Airport (KASG) on runway 36, with a takeoff distance of 2,093 feet, which accounted for 40% of the available runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 135 knots, with a local temperature of 61°F and a wind of 2 knots from 270 degrees. The crosswind component was minimal, with a headwind of zero knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its enroute altitude, it passed overhead Springdale, Arkansas, and continued to ascend to 20,009 feet above sea level. The climb phase lasted 7 minutes and covered a distance of 42 nautical miles, with an increase in altitude of 17,719 feet. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted 14 minutes and covered 114 nautical miles. The descent phase began 2 miles northwest of Weiner, Arkansas, and lasted 12 minutes, with a decrease in altitude of 18,437 feet and a distance of 62 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 18R at Memphis International Airport (KMEM), with a heading of 179.0 degrees and an altitude of 1,259 feet above ground level.
The landing was executed with good threshold height and a threshold speed slightly below the target at 107 knots. The touchdown point was 1,104 feet beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 95 knots and a touchdown rate of -283 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was also satisfactory. The total landing distance was 3,891 feet, accounting for 42% of the available runway length. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking 1 minute and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 224 nautical miles, with a flight time of 39 minutes and no fuel consumption.
The aircraft, C750, successfully executed a final approach to runway 18R at KMEM Memphis International Airport from the north, aligning with the runway heading of 179.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,259 feet above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target, registering at 107 knots.
As the aircraft touched down on the runway, the touchdown point was located 1,104 feet beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 95 knots. The touchdown rate of -283 feet per minute was fair, indicating a moderate deceleration. Notably, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, demonstrating precise control during the landing phase. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 59°F and a light wind of 2 knots from 270°, contributed to a relatively smooth landing.
The total landing distance of 3,891 feet was 42% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, showcasing the pilot's ability to maintain control and stability during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing performance of C750 was satisfactory, with a score of 90.8% reflecting a well-executed landing despite some minor deviations from the target threshold speed.
