Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,524 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 230 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 14 at LFLE Chambéry Challes-les-Eaux Airfield, where the Kodiak 100 aircraft took off with a takeoff distance of 607 meters, which accounted for 62% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 91 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 13 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots at 19 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 5 knots and a tailwind of 3 knots.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb overhead Challes-les-Eaux, ascending from 1,093 feet above sea level to 1,704 feet above sea level, an increase of 610 feet in just 1 minute, while covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The enroute level cruise then began overhead Barberaz, lasting for 5 minutes and covering a distance of 9 nautical miles.
The final approach to landing was initiated at Aix-les-Bains Bourget Lake, where the aircraft descended from 82 feet above ground level to 0 feet above ground level, a decrease of 48 feet in just 5 seconds. The touchdown speed was excessively fast at 83 knots, but the touchdown rate was fair at -286 feet per minute, and the touchdown distance was good at 230 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 7 knots at 9 degrees, resulting in a headwind of 7 knots and no crosswind.
Following the landing, the aircraft underwent a landing rollout at Aix-les-Bains Bourget Lake, where it reached an altitude of 754 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 603 meters. The taxiing to the parking from the runway took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 11 nautical miles, taking 9 minutes to complete, and used 28 kilograms of fuel.
The aircraft in question is a Kodiak 100, which successfully landed at Aix-les-Bains Bourget Lake. The final approach was conducted from 1 nautical mile to 1 nautical mile at an altitude of 82 feet above ground level (agl). As the aircraft approached the touchdown point, it descended from 48 feet agl to 0 feet agl, indicating a rapid descent of 48 feet in just 5 seconds.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was recorded at 83 knots, which was deemed excessively fast. However, the touchdown rate of -286 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, indicating a relatively smooth landing. The touchdown distance of 230 meters was also satisfactory.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 7 knots from a direction of 9 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 0 knots and a headwind of 7 knots, which may have contributed to the aircraft's excessive touchdown speed.
Following the touchdown, the aircraft's landing rollout was conducted at an altitude of 754 feet above sea level (asl). The distance covered during the rollout was 603 meters, which was satisfactory.
Overall, while the aircraft's touchdown speed was a concern, the landing was otherwise successful, with a fair touchdown rate and a good touchdown distance. The local weather conditions also played a role in the landing, with the headwind contributing to the aircraft's speed.
