Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,251 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,251 ft of the 10,004 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,599 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A321 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Harry Reid International Airport, located at KLAS. This process took approximately 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 26R, with a takeoff distance of 7,294 feet, which accounted for 67% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 169 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of a temperature of 73 degrees Fahrenheit and winds of 2 knots at 59 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the tailwind was also 1 knot. The enroute climb started approximately 1 mile southwest of Paradise, Nevada, and the aircraft climbed from an altitude of 3,172 feet above sea level to 30,010 feet above sea level, an increase of 26,838 feet, in 17 minutes and covering a distance of 114 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, starting 4 miles northwest of L50 Tuweep Tuweep in Arizona, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 12 nautical miles. However, this was short-lived, as the aircraft began another climb phase 11 miles northeast of L50 Tuweep Tuweep, climbing from 30,009 feet above sea level to 35,012 feet above sea level, an increase of 5,003 feet, in 5 minutes and covering a distance of 39 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 16 miles southwest of 44AZ Sandhill Ranch Airport in Page, Arizona, and lasted for 113 minutes, covering a distance of 1,264 nautical miles. This was the longest phase of the flight, indicating that the aircraft was cruising at a relatively stable altitude and speed for an extended period.
As the aircraft began its descent, it encountered local weather conditions of a temperature of 18 degrees Fahrenheit and winds of 3 knots at 130 degrees. The crosswind was 3 knots, and the headwind was 1 knot. The enroute descent started 3 miles east of Marcellus, Michigan, and the aircraft descended from an altitude of 35,017 feet above sea level to 8,010 feet above sea level, a decrease of 27,008 feet, in 14 minutes and covering a distance of 91 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 2 miles west of KARB Ann Arbor Municipal Airport in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 23 nautical miles. However, this was short-lived, as the aircraft began another descent phase overhead Farmington, Michigan, descending from an altitude of 8,013 feet above sea level to 1,930 feet above sea level, a decrease of 6,083 feet, in 7 minutes and covering a distance of 28 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 21L at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport was from the northeast, with a heading of 209.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,281 feet above ground level. However, the aircraft went around at 24 feet above ground level. The aircraft then landed on runway 21L, with a runway length of 10,004 feet. The threshold height was above the target, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 139 knots.
The touchdown point was 1,236 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 129 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -233 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 18 degrees Fahrenheit and winds of 3 knots at 130 degrees, with a crosswind of 3 knots and
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed on runway 21L at KDTW Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, achieving a score of 89.0%. The final approach was initiated from the north east, heading 209.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,281 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach to the runway was executed with good threshold height, indicating a stable and controlled descent.
Upon landing, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 136 knots, reaching 139 knots. However, the threshold height was above the target at 64 feet agl, suggesting a slightly higher than desired approach path. The touchdown point was 1,236 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively long distance. The touchdown speed of 129 knots was a little fast, and the touchdown rate of -233 feet per minute (fpm) was fair.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 18°F and a wind speed of 3 knots from 130°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 1 knot. Despite these conditions, the aircraft maintained perfect runway touchdown alignment, indicating a well-executed landing.
The total landing distance of 4,988 feet was 50% of the runway length, which is a relatively long distance. However, the runway rollout alignment was perfect, suggesting that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively. Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor deviations from the target parameters, resulting in a score of 89.0%.
