Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,494 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 318 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Aircraft A400M departed from Aberdeen Dyce Airport, Scotland, where it rolled out on runway 16 after a 6-minute taxiing period. The takeoff distance of 958 meters, which covered 49% of the runway, was achieved at a liftoff speed of 148 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 11°C, with a wind speed of 26 knots from 239°, resulting in a 26-knot crosswind and a 4-knot headwind.
As the aircraft climbed out of Aberdeen, it began its enroute climb 1 mile south of the airport, reaching an altitude of 9,895 feet above sea level in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles. The aircraft then descended from 9,910 feet to 6,850 feet in a similar timeframe, before initiating a second climb from 6,804 feet to 19,000 feet in 5 minutes, covering 29 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a level cruise at 19 miles east of Peterhead, lasting 25 minutes and covering 168 nautical miles. As the aircraft approached its destination, it began a descent from 18,997 feet to 9,301 feet in 7 minutes, before entering a short level cruise at 13 miles south west of Skudeneshavn, lasting 2 minutes. The final descent from 8,999 feet to 1,390 feet took 8 minutes, covering 31 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 18 at Stavanger Airport, Sola, from the north, aligning with the runway at 4 nautical miles and 1,361 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown distance of 319 meters, achieved at a speed of 115 knots. The touchdown rate was slightly hard at -545 feet per minute, but the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, covering less than 1 nautical mile in 3 minutes. The total flight distance was 306 nautical miles, taking 61 minutes, and the aircraft used 3,620 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The A400M aircraft touched down on runway 18 at ENZV Stavanger Airport, Sola, with a satisfactory approach quality. The aircraft was established on the final approach from the north, heading 179.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,361 feet above ground level. The approach was conducted in a 20-knot headwind, which contributed to a smooth touchdown.
The aircraft touched down at a speed of 115 knots, with a touchdown distance of 319 meters. The threshold speed was well-managed at 125 knots, and the touchdown rate was slightly harder than desired at -545 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating a high degree of control and precision during the landing. The aircraft's ability to maintain centerline alignment throughout the rollout phase was also noteworthy, with a very good alignment observed.
The overall landing performance was satisfactory, with a total landing distance of 917 meters, which accounted for 37% of the runway length. The landing score was 95.7%, reflecting a high degree of proficiency and control during the landing. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 8°C and a 20-knot headwind, did not appear to have a significant impact on the landing performance.
