Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: off the centreline and speed above the reference speed.
At the 500 ft gate: off the centreline and speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,075 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 619 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 32 at Zürich Airport (LSZH), where the Boeing 777-300 took off with a takeoff distance of 1,516 meters, which is 48% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 180 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were a temperature of 10°C, with a wind speed of 3 knots at 235°, resulting in a 3-knot crosswind and a 0-knot headwind.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb overhead Oberglatt, a town in the Kanton Zurich region of Switzerland. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 2,477 feet above sea level to 18,636 feet above sea level, an increase of 16,158 feet in just 6 minutes, covering a distance of 13 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started overhead Villmergen, a town in the Kanton Aargau region of Switzerland. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 18,808 feet above sea level to 17,462 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,346 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started overhead Staffelbach, another town in the Kanton Aargau region of Switzerland, and lasted for 202 minutes, covering a distance of 242 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 2 miles northwest of Alken, a town in the Flanders region of Belgium. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 16,999 feet above sea level to 1,552 feet above sea level, a decrease of 15,447 feet in just 8 minutes, covering a distance of 26 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 25R at Brussels Airport (EBBR) was made from the northeast, heading 239.0° at 3 nautical miles and 1,386 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on the runway, which had a length of 3,075 meters. The threshold height was above the target, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 184 knots.
The touchdown point was 212 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 173 knots. However, the touchdown rate was good at -154 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.3 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 7°C, with a wind speed of 15 knots at 250°, resulting in a 1-knot crosswind and a 15-knot headwind.
The total landing distance was 1,332 meters, which is 43% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.1 meters from the centerline. The taxiing to the parking from the runway took just 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 295 nautical miles, taking a total of 75 minutes, and the aircraft used 14,891 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 777-300 aircraft successfully landed at Brussels Airport (EBBR) on runway 25R, achieving a score of 89.8%. The final approach was initiated from the north-east, heading 239.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,386 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 212 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly off-target. The touchdown speed of 173 knots was a bit faster than the target speed, indicating that the pilots may have needed to apply more braking force to slow down the aircraft. However, the touchdown rate of -154 feet per minute (fpm) was considered good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 7°C and a wind speed of 15 knots from a direction of 250°. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 15 knots, which may have affected the aircraft's alignment during the landing roll. Despite this, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.3 meters from the centerline.
The total landing distance of 1,332 meters was 43% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. However, the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 8.1 meters from the centerline, indicating that the pilots may have needed to make some adjustments to maintain the aircraft's alignment during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, but there were some minor deviations from the target parameters. The pilots demonstrated good control and handling of the aircraft, and the landing was completed safely and efficiently.
