Improve the pattern base leg turn
Bank angle in the pattern is conventionally kept to 20 to 30 degrees, and the base-to-final turn is where that convention earns its keep. Stall speed rises with bank because the wing must produce more lift in a turn. Roughly 7 per cent higher at 30 degrees, about 19 per cent at 45, and around 40 per cent at 60. At 65 kt on base you don't have much margin to spend steepening a turn to salvage an overshoot.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply. These checks are the approach's score.
At the 500 ft gate: off the runway's 3° glideslope.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,866 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 480 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Lancair Legacy taxied to runway 23 at EGPE Inverness Airport and commenced the departure roll, covering 648 m which represented 35 % of the available runway. Liftoff was achieved at 112 kt. Ambient conditions were 16 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 270°, a cross-wind component of 1 kt and a head-wind component of 2 kt.
After take-off the aircraft entered a left-hand pattern on runway 23, covering less than 1 nm in 20 seconds to establish the entry leg.
The subsequent left-hand crosswind segment was completed in less than 1 nm during an 8-second interval.
During the downwind turn the aircraft described a 2 nm arc, aligning to the runway at a 45° angle of 56.5°.
The downwind leg extended 2 nm and was flown in 41 seconds before the base turn was initiated.
The base leg turn spanned 1 nm with a 45° angle to the runway measured at 15.8°.
On final approach to runway 23 the aircraft descended from 588 ft agl to 202 ft agl in 39 seconds, meeting the stabilisation gate criteria; weather remained 16 °C, wind 2 kt from 269°, cross-wind 1 kt and head-wind 2 kt.
Touchdown occurred on runway 23, whose length is 1,866 m, with a threshold speed of 103 kt. The aircraft contacted the surface 51 m beyond the touchdown zone at 87 kt and a vertical speed of minus 53 fpm, achieving very good alignment. Total landing distance was 811 m, representing 43 % of the runway.
Runway rollout alignment was perfect as the aircraft decelerated to a stop.
In total the flight covered 10 nm, required 4 minutes of elapsed time and consumed 3 kg of fuel.
The Lancair Legacy executed a final approach to runway 23 at EGPE Inverness Airport, descending from 588 ft agl to 202 ft agl in 39 seconds and receiving a stabilisation-gate assessment.
During the threshold and flare phase the aircraft encountered a runway length of 1,866 m, achieved a good threshold height and maintained a good threshold speed of 103 kt.
Touchdown occurred 51 m beyond the touchdown zone with a good touchdown speed of 87 kt, an excellent touchdown rate of minus 53 fpm and a very good runway touchdown alignment; local weather was 16 °C with wind 2 kt from 269°, crosswind 1 kt and headwind 2 kt.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 811 m, representing 43 % of the runway, and the runway rollout alignment was perfect.
Minor refinements include adjusting the flare to place the touchdown point slightly closer to the designated zone, while preserving the current speed and alignment that produced the perfect rollout.
