Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,098 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 378 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took approximately 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-MAX8, then departed from runway 23 at LIRI Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport, located in Italy. The takeoff distance was 1,226 meters, which accounted for 82% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 158 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 28°C temperature and a 5-knot headwind at 230 degrees. The enroute climb started approximately 1 mile southwest of the airport and reached an altitude of 36,717 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,637 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 89 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, which began 4 miles east of Sabaudia, Italy, and lasted for 83 minutes, covering a distance of 584 nautical miles. The cruise phase was followed by a descent, which started 1 mile southeast of Angelsberg, Luxembourg, and descended from 35,933 feet to 19,324 feet in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 58 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started overhead Jupille-sur-Meuse, Belgium, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles. This was followed by another descent, which started 1 mile northeast of Donceel, Belgium, and descended from 18,830 feet to 3,301 feet in 13 minutes, covering a distance of 40 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started overhead Trazegnies, Belgium, and lasted for 11 minutes, covering a distance of 12 nautical miles. This was followed by another descent, which started overhead Bothey, Belgium, and descended from 3,108 feet to 1,878 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 24 at EBCI Brussels South Charleroi Airport was made from the northeast, heading 245.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,274 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown distance of 375 meters and a touchdown speed of 136 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -364 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.7 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 29°C temperature and a 4-knot headwind at 180 degrees, with a crosswind of 8 knots. The total flight distance was 802 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 142 minutes, with a fuel consumption of 5,280 kilograms.
The Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft successfully landed at EBCI Brussels South Charleroi Airport, achieving a score of 96.6%. The final approach to runway 24 was initiated from the north-east, heading 245.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,274 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft's approach and landing performance were satisfactory, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 139 knots. The touchdown distance of 375 meters was also within acceptable limits, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. Furthermore, the touchdown speed of 136 knots was within the desired range, and the touchdown rate of -364 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting a stable and controlled landing.
However, there was a slight deviation from the ideal landing performance, as the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.7 meters from the centerline. This minor discrepancy may be attributed to various factors, including wind conditions or pilot error. Nevertheless, the overall performance of the aircraft and the crew was commendable, considering the challenging weather conditions at the time of landing.
The local weather at the time of landing was characterized by a temperature of 29°C and a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 180°. The crosswind component was 8 knots, while the headwind component was 4 knots. These conditions may have presented some challenges for the pilots, but they were able to navigate the aircraft safely and successfully to the runway.
In conclusion, the Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft demonstrated a high level of proficiency and skill during the landing at EBCI Brussels South Charleroi Airport, achieving a score of 96.6%. While there were some minor deviations from the ideal landing performance, the overall performance of the aircraft and the crew was satisfactory, and the landing was completed safely and successfully.
