Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 9,954 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,093 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 23 at LFBD Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport in France. The takeoff distance was 4,830 feet, which accounted for 47% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 157 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 57°F and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 259°. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 4 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile southwest of the airport, rising from an altitude of 1,194 feet above sea level to 31,551 feet above sea level, an increase of 30,357 feet, in 18 minutes and covering a distance of 118 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 1 mile southwest of Albiztur, Spain, and lasted for 28 minutes, covering a distance of 220 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 6 miles north of LPMU Mogadouro Airfield in Portugal, descending from 31,891 feet above sea level to 1,483 feet above sea level, a decrease of 30,408 feet, in 21 minutes and covering a distance of 92 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 35 at LPPR Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport in Portugal was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 349.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,284 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with the touchdown point being 728 feet beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 129 knots, which was considered good, while the touchdown rate was fair at -294 feet per minute.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 55°F and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 309°. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 5 knots. The total landing distance was 3,698 feet, which accounted for 37% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 6 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 440 nautical miles, which was covered in 84 minutes, and the aircraft used 8,424 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at LPPR Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport, with a final approach score of 95.4%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the south, heading 349.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,284 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 35, which has a length of 9,954 feet. The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct height as it approached the runway. The threshold speed of 136 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's ability to control the aircraft's speed during the landing.
The touchdown point was 728 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly beyond the ideal point but still within a safe margin. The touchdown speed of 129 knots was good, indicating that the aircraft was able to slow down smoothly and land safely. However, the touchdown rate of -294 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair, suggesting that the aircraft could have been slowed down more gradually.
Despite the slightly high touchdown rate, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway and landed smoothly. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 55°F and a wind speed of 6 knots from 309°. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots, which is relatively light and should not have affected the landing.
The total landing distance of 3,698 feet was 37% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to slow down smoothly and come to a stop without any issues. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good control and judgment during the approach and landing phases.
