Improve the pattern downwind leg
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,737 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 398 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
This flight was conducted in a Baron 58 aircraft, departing from Glasgow Prestwick Airport (EGPK) on runway 30. The taxiing process from the parking area to the runway took less than a minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll began on runway 30, and the takeoff distance was 456 meters, which accounted for 17% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 101 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 16 °C and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 269 °. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 2 knots. The aircraft then entered a left-hand pattern from runway 30, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile in 116 seconds.
As the aircraft continued its pattern, it encountered a crosswind from runway 30, which it navigated in 20 seconds. The downwind turn was executed at an angle of 45 degrees to the runway, with a distance of 3 nautical miles. The downwind leg itself was short, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile in just 3 seconds.
The final approach to runway 12 was made from the north-west, with the aircraft flying at a heading of 118.0 ° and an altitude of 813 feet above ground level (agl) at a distance of 2 nautical miles from the runway. The landing on runway 12 was successful, with a threshold height that was considered good. The threshold speed was also good at 86 knots, and the touchdown distance was 398 meters, which was within acceptable limits.
The touchdown speed was 61 knots, and the touchdown rate was perfect at -42 feet per minute (fpm). However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 3.6 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 8 °C and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 249 °, resulting in a crosswind of 3 knots and a tailwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 782 meters, which accounted for 29% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The total flight distance was 6 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 5 minutes. Notably, the aircraft used no fuel during the flight.
The Baron 58 aircraft successfully landed at EGPK Glasgow Prestwick Airport, achieving a high score of 99.2%. The final approach was conducted from the north-west, heading 118.0° at 2 nautical miles and 813 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft demonstrated good control and precision during the approach, ultimately landing safely on runway 12.
The runway at EGPK Glasgow Prestwick Airport has a length of 2,737 meters, providing a sufficient distance for the Baron 58 to touch down and come to a stop. The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude when crossing the runway threshold. The threshold speed of 86 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed during the approach.
The touchdown distance of 398 meters was good, and the touchdown speed of 61 knots was also within the acceptable range. The touchdown rate of -42 feet per minute (fpm) was perfect, indicating that the aircraft touched down smoothly and without any excessive deceleration. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.6 meters from the centerline, which may require some adjustments to the pilot's approach technique.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 8°C and a wind speed of 4 knots from 249°. The crosswind and tailwind components were both 3 knots, which is relatively light and should not have significantly impacted the landing. The total landing distance of 782 meters was 29% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight.
The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and bring it to a stop safely. Overall, the landing was a success, and the pilot demonstrated good skills and judgment in managing the aircraft during the approach and landing phases.
