Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,530 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 55 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone.
The rest of the report
The OV-10 Bronco taxied from the parking area to runway 13, a movement that lasted 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nm.
Departure roll was conducted on runway 13 at U34 Green River Mun. The aircraft used 1,149 m of runway, representing 68 % of the available length, and lifted off at 100 kt. Ambient temperature was 36 °C with wind 7 kt from 080°, providing a 3 kt headwind and a 7 kt crosswind component.
Climb commenced overhead U34 Green River Mun, ascending from 4,719 ft asl to 10,676 ft asl, an increase of 5,956 ft achieved in 6 minutes while covering 22 nm.
The first cruise segment began 16 mi north-east of KHVE Hanksville Airport and lasted 2 minutes, during which the aircraft travelled 6 nm.
Descent started 10 mi north of KHVE, descending from 10,772 ft asl to 5,588 ft asl, a loss of 5,184 ft in 5 minutes and covering 21 nm.
A second cruise phase originated 11 mi west of KHVE, persisted for 2 minutes and spanned 6 nm.
Climb resumed 12 mi north of UT02 Sandy Ranch Airport, raising altitude from 5,540 ft asl to 6,411 ft asl, an increase of 871 ft in 2 minutes while covering 6 nm.
The next cruise segment began again 12 mi north of UT02, lasted 2 minutes and covered 6 nm.
A further climb started 13 mi east of Bicknell, lifting the aircraft from 6,037 ft asl to 9,738 ft asl, an increase of 3,701 ft over 6 minutes and 24 nm.
Descent followed 11 mi north-east of KLOA Loa Airport, dropping from 9,739 ft asl to 6,539 ft asl, a decrease of 3,200 ft in 5 minutes and covering 18 nm.
The final cruise segment originated 4 mi south-east of KLOA Loa Airport, lasted 5 minutes and spanned 14 nm.
On final approach to runway 13 at 1L7 Escalante Muni, the aircraft approached from the north-west on a heading of 140.0°, descending to 0 nm and 406 ft agl.
Landing was executed on runway 13, which is 1,530 m long. The threshold speed was slightly below target at 75 kt. Touchdown occurred 54 m down the runway at 73 kt, with a touchdown rate of minus 2,172 fpm and a runway touchdown position 7.2 m off centreline. Local weather reported a temperature of 33 °C, wind 19 kt from 248°, yielding an 18 kt crosswind and a 6 kt tailwind component.
Rollout distance measured 305 m, representing 20 % of the runway, and the aircraft’s alignment during rollout was 20.1 m off the centreline.
In total, the flight covered 126 nm, required 36 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 177 kg of fuel.
The final approach to runway 13 at 1L7 Escalante Muni was flown from the north-west on a heading of 140.0° at 0 nm and 406 ft AGL. Ambient temperature was 33 °C with wind from 248° at 19 kt, including an 18 kt crosswind component and a 6 kt tailwind component.
Threshold height was reported as good and the threshold speed was a little below target at 75 kt. The aircraft continued the flare in a stabilized manner.
Touchdown occurred 54 m from the threshold at a speed of 73 kt, which was described as good. The vertical rate at touchdown was very heavy at minus 2,172 fpm and the touchdown point was slightly misaligned by 7.2 m from the centreline.
The total landing distance was 305 m, representing 20 % of the 1,530 m runway, and the rollout alignment was misaligned by 20.1 m from the centreline.
Refine flare technique to moderate the descent rate and avoid a heavy touchdown, and focus on maintaining centreline tracking through the rollout to reduce lateral deviation.
