Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,509 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,509 ft of the 11,947 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,960 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EFHK Helsinki Vantaa Airport took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The Boeing 737-800 then began its departure roll on runway 22R, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 154 knots in 3,284 feet, which was 33% of the runway's length. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 58°F and a light wind of 3 knots from 180°, resulting in a negligible crosswind and headwind component.
As the aircraft climbed away from EFHK, it began its enroute climb 1 mile west of the airport, ascending from 1,113 feet above sea level to 37,975 feet in 19 minutes, covering a distance of 133 nautical miles. The climb was a significant portion of the overall flight, with an increase of 36,862 feet in altitude. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 96 minutes and covered 728 nautical miles. This was followed by a descent phase, initiated 45 miles east of Caister-on-Sea, England, during which the aircraft descended from 37,991 feet to 7,103 feet in 21 minutes, covering 139 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 27L at EGLL London Heathrow Airport was initiated from the east, with the aircraft descending from 6,810 feet to 1,349 feet in 7 minutes, covering 20 nautical miles. The landing was executed with a threshold speed of 131 knots, and the touchdown point was 595 feet beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 123 knots and a rate of -46 feet per minute. The total landing distance was 5,244 feet, which was 48% of the runway's length. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 5 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,041 nautical miles, and the aircraft used 13,911 pounds of fuel during the flight, which lasted for 164 minutes.
The Boeing 737-800 touched down on runway 27L at EGLL London Heathrow Airport with a score of 97.9%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 269.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,268 feet above ground level. The approach quality was good, with a threshold height that was well within the acceptable limits. The threshold speed was also good, at 131 knots, indicating a well-executed flare.
As the aircraft touched down, it was 595 feet beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 123 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was perfect at -46 feet per minute, demonstrating excellent control and precision. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, with the aircraft centered on the runway. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 52°F and a 5-knot headwind, contributed to a smooth and controlled landing.
The total landing distance was 5,244 feet, which was 48% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, with the aircraft maintaining its centerline alignment throughout the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was a success, with the aircraft demonstrating excellent control and precision throughout the approach, touchdown, and rollout phases.
