Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 797 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 797 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 261 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Vision Jet taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Port Stanley Airport, taking approximately 2 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile. Departure roll took place on runway 27, with the aircraft lifting off after a takeoff distance of 327 meters, which accounted for 41% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 91 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 0 knots at 360 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind and headwind of 0 knots each. As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, starting overhead Port Stanley Airport and Stanley, the Falkland Islands. The climb from 631 feet above sea level to 1,323 feet above sea level, an increase of 692 feet, took 1 minute and covered 3 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, lasting 2 minutes and covering 3 nautical miles, 2 miles north of Port Stanley Airport. The aircraft then began another climb, this time from 1,362 feet above sea level to 1,854 feet above sea level, an increase of 492 feet, in 2 minutes and covering 4 nautical miles. The level cruise that followed, lasting 8 minutes and covering 4 nautical miles, took place 6 miles north of Stanley.
As the aircraft continued its journey, it began its enroute descent, starting 5 miles north of Port Stanley Airport. The descent from 1,796 feet above sea level to 163 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,633 feet, took 3 minutes and covered 5 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb, this time from 151 feet above sea level to 2,156 feet above sea level, an increase of 2,005 feet, in 2 minutes and covering 3 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 09 at Port Stanley Airport took place from the west, with the aircraft heading 89.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,254 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 09, with a length of 797 meters, was successful, with a threshold height that was good and a threshold speed that was slightly above the target at 74 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 259 meters, and the touchdown speed at 61 knots was also good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -231 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the local weather conditions remained the same, with a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 0 knots at 0 degrees. The crosswind and headwind were both 0 knots.
The total landing distance was 374 meters, accounting for 47% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway in 1 minute, covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 32 nautical miles, taking 32 minutes, and the aircraft used 99 kilograms of fuel.
The Vision Jet has successfully landed at SFAL Port Stanley Airport, achieving a high score of 97.2%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 89.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,254 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise final approach, aligning the aircraft with the runway threshold.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was slightly above the target threshold speed of 74 knots, registering at 74 kt. However, the touchdown distance of 259 meters was deemed good, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. The touchdown speed of 61 kt was also within acceptable limits, further emphasizing the pilot's skill and control.
The landing rate, which measures the rate at which the aircraft descends during the landing, was fair at -231 feet per minute (fpm). While not exceptional, this rate is still within the acceptable range for a safe and controlled landing. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 17°C and no wind. This lack of wind made the landing even more challenging, as the pilot had to rely solely on their skills and the aircraft's performance to navigate the approach and landing. The total landing distance of 374 meters, which accounts for 47% of the runway length, was also within acceptable limits.
Finally, the runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase, ensuring a safe and controlled stop at the end of the runway. Overall, the Vision Jet's landing at SFAL Port Stanley Airport was a success, with the pilot demonstrating exceptional skills and control throughout the approach and landing phases.
