Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,419 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,419 ft of the 7,546 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,438 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Düsseldorf Airport, the Airbus A320 began its journey on runway 23L, taking off with a distance of 6,325 feet, which covered 72% of the available runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 167 knots, with a local temperature of 77°F and a gentle tailwind of 1 knot. As it departed the German airspace, the aircraft entered a steady climb, ascending from 1,075 feet above sea level to 31,914 feet in just 17 minutes, covering a distance of 102 nautical miles.
The enroute climb continued as the aircraft crossed into Belgian airspace, reaching a cruise altitude of 32,010 feet. The crew then maintained a steady level flight for 71 minutes, covering a distance of 585 nautical miles. As the aircraft entered Spanish airspace, it began another climb, this time from 32,010 feet to 36,009 feet in just 5 minutes, covering 45 nautical miles. The crew then entered a short cruise phase, lasting 24 minutes and covering 197 nautical miles. As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its descent, dropping from 35,823 feet to 1,457 feet in 21 minutes, covering 123 nautical miles.
The Airbus A320 finally touched down on runway 20 at Jerez Airport, with a touchdown distance of 1,448 feet and a speed of 136 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -377 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The aircraft taxied to the parking area in just 5 minutes, covering 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,062 nautical miles, taking 154 minutes and consuming 13,834 pounds of fuel. The flight was completed with a total landing distance of 5,180 feet, which covered 69% of the available runway.
The aircraft touched down on runway 20 at LEJR Jerez Airport with a firm touchdown rate of -377 fpm, slightly above the target rate. The touchdown speed of 136 kt was a little fast, but the aircraft maintained perfect runway touchdown alignment. The good threshold height and slight excess in threshold speed of 142 kt, which was above the target, were noted.
The touchdown distance of 1,448 ft was within acceptable limits, and the aircraft's rollout was characterized by perfect alignment with the centreline. The total landing distance of 5,180 ft was 69% of the runway length, indicating a good balance between stopping distance and runway utilization. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 73 °F and a headwind of 3 kt, contributed to a smooth and controlled approach.
The overall performance of the landing was satisfactory, with a score of 97.5%. The approach quality was good, with a stable and controlled descent, and the aircraft's handling characteristics were well within the expected parameters. The landing was a credit to the crew's skill and attention to detail, and it demonstrated a high level of proficiency in executing a safe and efficient landing.
