Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,967 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,967 ft of the 12,760 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,536 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 34 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 36L at KMEM Memphis International Airport. The takeoff distance was 2,976 feet, which accounted for 32% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 146 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 41 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 320 degrees. The crosswind component was 2 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northwest of KMEM Memphis International Airport. The climb took 19 minutes and covered a distance of 98 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,358 feet above sea level to 36,367 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,009 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started overhead 2AR0 Bully Henry Airport in Lonoke, Arkansas. This phase lasted for 103 minutes and covered a distance of 650 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 3 miles north of Las Vegas, New Mexico. The descent took 22 minutes and covered a distance of 80 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 36,270 feet above sea level to 6,601 feet above sea level, a decrease of 29,670 feet.
The final approach to runway 08 at KABQ Albuquerque International Sunport was made from the west, with a heading of 90.0 degrees. The aircraft was at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,270 feet above ground level at this point. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 52 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 280 degrees. The crosswind component was 0 knots, while the tailwind component was 2 knots.
The landing was made on runway 08, which had a length of 12,760 feet. The threshold height at 59 feet above ground level was slightly above the target, while the threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 146 knots. The touchdown point was 1,191 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 136 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -273 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The total landing distance was 5,722 feet, which accounted for 45% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 840 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 168 minutes. The aircraft used 14,765 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at the Albuquerque International Sunport, achieving a score of 93.7%. The final approach to runway 08 was initiated from the west, with a heading of 90.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,270 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 1,191 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly outside the target area. The touchdown speed of 136 knots was a bit faster than the target speed, indicating that the pilot may have needed to apply more braking force to bring the aircraft to a stop. However, the touchdown rate of -273 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the pilot was able to manage the descent effectively.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 52°F and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 280°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind component and a slight tailwind of 2 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly faster touchdown speed.
The total landing distance of 5,722 feet was 45% of the available runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, suggesting that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score despite a few minor deviations from the target parameters. The pilot's ability to manage the descent and rollout phases effectively was evident, and the aircraft was able to stop safely within the available runway length.
