Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,299 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,299 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 289 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 01 at LGHI Chios Island National Airport. The Honda Jet took off with a takeoff distance of 315 meters, which accounted for 24% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 123 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 11 knots at a direction of 19 degrees. The crosswind was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind was 11 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead Chios in the North Aegean region of Greece. The aircraft climbed from an altitude of 1,001 feet above sea level to 1,892 feet, an increase of 891 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 3 nautical miles. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which lasted for 3 minutes and covered a distance of 11 nautical miles, 3 miles east of Chios.
The enroute descent began 3 miles southeast of Nenita in the North Aegean region. The aircraft descended from an altitude of 1,672 feet above sea level to 1,089 feet, a decrease of 583 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 3 nautical miles. Another level cruise followed, which lasted for 3 minutes and covered a distance of 6 nautical miles, 3 miles south of Nenita.
The final approach to runway 01 at LGHI Chios Island National Airport was made from the south, with the aircraft heading at 9.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 777 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 100 knots. The touchdown distance was 290 meters, and the touchdown rate was -162 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were the same as at the time of departure, with a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 11 knots at a direction of 19 degrees. The crosswind was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind was 11 knots. The total landing distance was 916 meters, which accounted for 71% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect.
The total flight distance was 27 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 11 minutes. The aircraft used 64 kilograms of fuel during the flight. Overall, the flight was characterized by good weather conditions, smooth flight operations, and a successful landing.
The Honda Jet successfully completed a landing at LGHI Chios Island National Airport, achieving a high score of 98.2%. The aircraft approached the runway from the south, heading 9.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 777 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise final approach, taking into account the runway's length of 1,299 meters and the local weather conditions.
The temperature at the time of landing was 21°C, with a wind speed of 11 knots blowing from 19°. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 11 knots, which the pilot effectively managed during the landing. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was maintained at 114 knots, indicating a smooth and controlled approach.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft performed well, with a touchdown speed of 100 knots and a touchdown rate of -162 feet per minute (fpm). The touchdown distance was also within the acceptable range at 290 meters. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, demonstrating the pilot's skill and precision in navigating the aircraft to the runway.
The total landing distance of 916 meters was 71% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. This suggests that the pilot executed a smooth and controlled landing, minimizing the aircraft's deceleration and roll-out distance. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the roll-out phase, ensuring a safe and stable stop at the end of the runway. Overall, the landing was a success, with the Honda Jet demonstrating its capabilities and the pilot's expertise in executing a precise and controlled landing.
