MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 6,319 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 6,319 ft of the 12,427 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 3,660 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.

Following that, a short level cruise of 5 nm was flown 8 mi south-west of Tai O.
The final descent started 7 mi west of Tai O, dropping from 3,088 ft asl to 1,262 ft asl, a decrease of 1,826 ft in 2 minutes over 5 nm.
On final approach to runway 07L at VHHH Hong Kong International Airport, the aircraft approached from the south-west on a heading of 70.0° at 4 nm and 1,219 ft agl.
Landing on runway 07L, whose length is 12,427 ft, the threshold height at 60 ft agl was above target, while the threshold speed was 133 kt. Touchdown occurred 2,296 ft beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 122 kt; the touchdown rate was minus 82 fpm and the touchdown point was offset 12 ft from the centreline. Local weather reported a temperature of 79 °F, wind 2 kt from 69°, with no crosswind and a 2 kt headwind. Total landing distance measured 6,055 ft (49 % of runway).
Runway rollout alignment was reported as very good.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 10 minutes, covering 3 nm.
In total, the flight covered 4,560 nm, lasted 614 minutes, and consumed 121,977 lb of fuel.
The Airbus A350-900 entered the final approach to runway 07L at VHHH from the south-west on a heading of 70.0° at 4 nm and 1,219 ft agl. At the 1,000 ft gate the approach was assessed as stabilised, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits; ambient temperature was 79 °F, wind 2 kt from 69°, crosswind 0 kt and headwind 2 kt.
At threshold the aircraft was above the target height, while the threshold speed of 133 kt was recorded as good.
Touchdown occurred 2,296 ft beyond the touchdown zone with a speed of 122 kt judged good and a vertical rate of -82 fpm described as excellent; the touchdown point was slightly off centreline by 12 ft.
Rollout used a total landing distance of 6,055 ft, representing 49 % of the 12,427 ft runway, and runway rollout alignment was very good.
With a final score of 95.2 % the landing was strong overall; refining the threshold height to meet the target and reducing the touchdown overshoot will bring the touchdown point closer to the intended aim point while preserving the excellent speed and rate performance.
