Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,698 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,698 m of the 4,284 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 943 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The Airbus A320 then departed from runway 36 at VTCC Chiang Mai International Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,545 meters, which is 50% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 162 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Chiang Mai, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius. The enroute climb started overhead the airport and continued for 17 minutes, covering a distance of 88 nautical miles and increasing the altitude from 2,053 feet above sea level to 30,015 feet above sea level, a total increase of 27,962 feet.
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 7 minutes and covered a distance of 51 nautical miles. This phase took place 23 miles south east of Loikaw in Myanmar. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 25 miles south of Ywama in Myanmar. The descent phase lasted for 20 minutes, covering a distance of 106 nautical miles and decreasing the altitude from 30,015 feet above sea level to 1,596 feet above sea level, a total decrease of 28,419 feet.
As the aircraft approached VYMD Mandalay International Airport, it began its final approach to runway 35 from the south, heading 351.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,291 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. However, the aircraft was required to perform a go-around due to the threshold height being significantly above the target height.
The aircraft then landed on runway 35 at VYMD Mandalay International Airport, with a runway length of 4,284 meters. The touchdown point was 516 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 130 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was good at -165 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.4 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius.
The total landing distance was 1,606 meters, which is 37% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxiied to the parking area, a process that took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 263 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 66 minutes. The aircraft used 2,799 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed at Mandalay International Airport, with a score of 82.0%. The final approach to runway 35 was initiated from the south, heading 351.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,291 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 35, which has a length of 4,284 meters. The threshold height at 77 feet agl was found to be well above the target, indicating that the aircraft was higher than expected at the point of touchdown. The threshold speed, however, was slightly above the target at 143 knots, suggesting that the aircraft was approaching the runway at a slightly higher speed than intended.
The second landing attempt also resulted in a threshold height that was significantly above the target at 80 feet agl. The threshold speed was again slightly above the target at 141 knots. The touchdown point was located 516 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating that the aircraft landed slightly further down the runway than intended. The touchdown speed of 130 knots was a little fast, but the touchdown rate of -165 feet per minute (fpm) was good.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.4 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 10°C.
The total landing distance was 1,606 meters, which accounted for 37% of the runway length. This suggests that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain a stable and controlled path after landing.
Overall, while there were some minor issues with the landing, such as a slightly fast touchdown speed and a misaligned runway touchdown position, the aircraft was able to land safely and within the acceptable limits.
