Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 7,528 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,239 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight departed from Stinson Municipal Airport (KSSF) in San Antonio, Texas, where the aircraft began its taxiing process, taking approximately 5 minutes to reach the runway. After a smooth departure roll on runway 09, the aircraft lifted off at a speed of 147 kt, utilizing 2,113 ft of the 5,500 ft runway, which accounted for 47% of its length.
As the aircraft climbed to 12,068 ft, it traversed 19 nm in 4 minutes, demonstrating a notable rate of ascent. The enroute climb phase was punctuated by several level cruise segments, including a 2-minute cruise at 12,506 ft, covering 11 nm, and an 11-minute cruise at 15,107 ft, spanning 78 nm. The aircraft then began its descent from 15,100 ft to 2,096 ft, a decrease of 13,004 ft in 8 minutes, covering 44 nm. The final approach to runway 14 at Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport (KCXO) was executed from the north-west, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 102 kt and a touchdown distance of 1,235 ft, which was within acceptable limits. The total landing distance of 2,836 ft accounted for 38% of the 7,528 ft runway.
The flight's performance was notable for its efficient use of fuel, with no fuel consumed during the 37-minute journey, covering a total distance of 177 nm. The taxiing process to and from the runway was also swift, taking 5 minutes and less than 1 nm to reach the parking area. The local weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from 62 °F to 59 °F and winds of 2 kt at 270 °, presented a stable environment for the flight.
The aircraft, C750, successfully executed a final approach to runway 14 at KCXO Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport from the north west, aligning with the runway heading of 146.0° at a distance of 4 nm and an altitude of 1,340 ft above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 110 kt, indicating a slight deceleration prior to touchdown.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft demonstrated good characteristics, with a touchdown distance of 1,235 ft and a touchdown speed of 102 kt, both of which were within acceptable limits. The touchdown rate of -193 fpm was also good, indicating a controlled descent. Although the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 14 ft from the centreline, the overall touchdown characteristics were satisfactory. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 59°F and a light wind of 2 kt at 270°, contributed to a relatively stable approach and landing.
The total landing distance of 2,836 ft, which accounted for 38% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a high degree of control and precision during the landing phase. Overall, the landing was scored 98.5%, reflecting a high level of proficiency and adherence to standard operating procedures.
