The airfield lies within Bear Lake Valley, a high mountain basin in Idaho's southeastern corner that abuts the Wyoming state line to the east and the Utah state line to the south. The valley floor sits above 5,900 feet, and the surrounding terrain rises sharply, with Meade Peak in the Caribou National Forest reaching 9,957 feet. Paris, the county seat and nearest town, lies immediately adjacent to the field, with Bear Lake itself a few miles to the south and east, and the larger town of Montpelier further along the valley.
