History

Nanaimo Harbour Water Aerodrome has long served as a water aerodrome for the city of Nanaimo, registered by Nav Canada and formerly classified as an airport. It continues to be designated an airport of entry, with Canada Border Services Agency officers stationed there to handle general aviation arrivals of up to fifteen passengers.

The Airfield Today

The aerodrome remains an active commercial seaplane base, with operators including Harbour Air, Helijet, Kenmore Air, Seair Seaplanes, Sunshine Coast Air and Tofino Air providing scheduled and charter float-plane services to destinations such as Vancouver, Vancouver Harbour, Sechelt, Kenmore Air Harbor and Tofino. It is jointly run by the Nanaimo Port Authority and Seair Seaplanes, and Canada Border Services Agency officers are present to process eligible general aviation arrivals.
