Huronia Airport (CYEE) sits at the edge of Georgian Bay in the Township of Tiny, near Midland, Ontario, serving as the regional gateway to the Bay's famous 30,000 islands. It is a small, uncontrolled aerodrome with a single hard-surfaced runway, fuel services, and a mix of general aviation, kit-aircraft manufacturing and ultralight training activity.
Huronia Airport, identified as CYEE, lies just outside Midland, Ontario, in the Township of Tiny, close to the shoreline of Georgian Bay. It is jointly owned and operated by the towns of Midland and Penetanguishene together with the Township of Tiny, and is promoted locally as the 'Gateway to Georgian Bay'. For a visiting VFR pilot it offers a straightforward single-runway field with fuel, tie-downs and hangarage, set in an area popular with tourists and recreational flyers.
The airport is uncontrolled and lies within the area covered by Toronto Centre, contactable on 124.025 MHz. Local traffic uses the aerodrome traffic frequency and UNICOM on 122.85 MHz. The field is located in the Township of Tiny, a short distance from the towns of Midland and Penetanguishene, and sits close to the Georgian Bay shoreline, within a catchment area bounded roughly by Wasaga Beach to the west, Honey Harbour to the north, Moonstone and Highway 400 to the east, and Hillsdale/Phelpston/Highway 400 to the south.
Huronia Airport has a single physical runway, 16/34, measuring 3,959 feet with a hard surface and runway lighting. There is no instrument landing system at the field.
Pilots should monitor and use UNICOM on 122.85 MHz for aerodrome traffic advisories, as CYEE is an ATF/UNICOM field rather than a fully controlled aerodrome. Toronto Centre can be reached on 124.025 MHz for the surrounding airspace. No ILS is available at Huronia.
Huronia Airport is governed under a tri-party agreement between the towns of Midland and Penetanguishene and the Township of Tiny, with oversight from the Huronia Airport Commission, comprising the mayors of the three municipalities along with four community representatives. The airport has long served the North Simcoe region, providing a base for community aviation activity as well as commercial and private hangarage.
Huronia Airport today offers a roughly 4,000-foot runway with ample tie-down and ramp space, and fuel services covering both 100LL and Jet A1 (available with prist), with a discount offered to on-field customers. The field supports a range of activity, including ultralight flight training conducted on site, and hosts Zenair, a manufacturer of kit aircraft that distributes its products internationally from the airport. The airport also plays a role in regional emergency and government services, having supported medevac flights, military aircraft and police operations. Hangar space, including shared 'green hangar' facilities, is available for aircraft storage, and the airport hosts periodic community aviation events such as fly-ins.
