Elliot Lake Municipal Airport is a small municipal airfield in northern Ontario, situated south east of the town of Elliot Lake and operated by the City of Elliot Lake. It offers a single paved runway suitable for general aviation traffic and serves as a convenient staging point for pilots exploring the North Channel and Algoma region.

Overview

Elliot Lake Municipal Airport (CYEL) is a municipally operated general aviation aerodrome serving the town of Elliot Lake in northern Ontario. It has a single hard-surfaced runway and is of interest to visiting pilots as a fuel stop and staging point for flights around the North Channel of Lake Huron and the wider Algoma district.

Airspace & Location

The airfield lies in uncontrolled Class G airspace within the area worked by Toronto Center, roughly 12 kilometres south east of the town of Elliot Lake, off Highway 108.

Runways

CYEL has one physical runway, 12/30, measuring approximately 4,485 feet with a hard surface, and it is lit for night operations. There is no ILS at the field.

Radio & Navigation

Pilots should call Elliot Lake traffic on the aerodrome's UNICOM/ATF frequency of 123 MHz. Toronto Center can be contacted on 135.4 MHz for area traffic and control service. An AWOS weather station is installed at the airport, providing automated weather observations for arriving and departing traffic. Avgas is available on the field.

Visual Reference Points

The airport sits off Highway 108 south east of the town of Elliot Lake, which itself is a useful landmark for pilots approaching from the surrounding forested terrain of the region.

The Airfield Today

The airport is owned and operated by the City of Elliot Lake and remains active for general aviation use, with UNICOM communications and an on-field AWOS weather station. Facilities include a model airplane and memorabilia display, aviation literature, and space available for group gatherings or public functions, alongside avgas fuel availability.
