Ottawa/Gatineau Airport (CYND) is a medium-sized aerodrome at Gatineau, Quebec, just across the river from Ottawa, with a single paved runway and a resident flying club. It handles some airline traffic and offers customs clearance for visiting aircraft, making it a practical general aviation destination for pilots operating in the National Capital Region.

Overview

Ottawa/Gatineau Airport, identified by the ICAO code CYND and IATA code YND, serves Gatineau, Quebec, immediately across the Ottawa River from the city of Ottawa. It combines limited scheduled airline service with general aviation activity and is home base to a flying club, giving it a mixed but approachable character for visiting light aircraft.

Airspace & Location

The airport lies at 45.5217 N, 75.5636 W at an elevation of 210 feet, within the Gatineau area of Quebec, Canada, close to the Ottawa urban area on the opposite bank of the Ottawa River.

Runways

CYND has a single paved runway, 09/27, measuring 5,983 feet in length with a hard surface and runway lighting. There is no ILS approach available at the field.

Radio & Navigation

Gatineau Radio provides mandatory frequency (MF) service on 122.3 MHz between 0630 and 2115 local time; outside those hours the same 122.3 MHz frequency is used as the aerodrome traffic frequency (ATF), styled Gatineau Traffic. Ottawa Arrivals and Ottawa Departures both operate on 128.175 MHz, Ottawa Terminal is on 127.7 MHz, and Quebec Radio provides a remote communications outlet (RCO) on 123.375 MHz.

Joining & Circuit Procedures

During the published hours of operation, 0630 to 2115 local, pilots should work Gatineau Radio on the mandatory frequency of 122.3 MHz for arrival, departure and circuit sequencing. Outside these hours, the same frequency, 122.3 MHz, is used as an aerodrome traffic frequency for self-announced circuit and traffic calls under Gatineau Traffic.

The Airfield Today

The airport supports general aviation alongside limited airline service and is a customs (CANPASS) point of entry, useful for pilots arriving from the United States. Avgas is available on the field, and it serves as the home base for a local flying club with several based members.
