Ottawa/Rockcliffe Airport (CYRO) is a general aviation airfield on the northeastern edge of Ottawa, Ontario, sitting alongside the Ottawa River next to the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. It is the home base of the Rockcliffe Flying Club and offers a single hard-surfaced runway for visiting VFR traffic.

Overview

Ottawa/Rockcliffe Airport is a general aviation field on the northeastern side of Ottawa, Ontario, and serves as the home base of the Rockcliffe Flying Club (rfc.ca). It is associated with customs and CANPASS clearance facilities, avgas supply, and club flying activity, making it a useful and characterful destination for simulator pilots exploring the Ottawa area away from the region's larger controlled fields.

Airspace & Location

The airfield lies in Ontario, Canada, close to the Ottawa River on the northeastern fringe of the city, immediately adjacent to the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. Access to the airport by road is via Airport-Marina Drive, which turns off the Rockcliffe Parkway about a kilometre east of the museum's own exit; pedestrian access through the museum leads only to the museum's ramp and not into the rest of the airfield.

Runways

The airfield has a single physical runway, 09/27, hard-surfaced and lit, measuring approximately 3104 feet in the 09 direction and 3099 feet in the 27 direction. There is no ILS approach available.

Radio & Navigation

Traffic at the airfield is worked on the ATF, 123.5 MHz, callsign Rockcliffe Traffic, which also serves as the UNICOM frequency, Rockcliffe Unicom. A remote communications outlet, Quebec Radio, is available on 123.375 MHz. No ILS or other instrument navigation aids are provided.

Visual Reference Points

The Canada Aviation and Space Museum, sited immediately behind the airfield, is a prominent and useful visual landmark for locating the field from the air. On the ground, the airport access road is Airport-Marina Drive, which leaves the Rockcliffe Parkway about a kilometre east of the museum's exit.

The Airfield Today

The airport is the home base for the Rockcliffe Flying Club and supports active club flying operations, with avgas available on the field. Facility tags associated with the airport indicate customs and CANPASS clearance capability for international arrivals. It is recorded as the home base for a number of pilots using the field for general aviation flying.
